HOLY CRAP - You never want to see...

...your entire rear, passenger tire go peeling off in front of you at 80 mph.

Just got towed home. The thing I can't figure out is why my brakes went away when it happened. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the freeway. I'm sure we'll find out once we get in there later and start poking at it. But it was weird AND scary, I have to say.

On the plus side, while I was crapping my pants during the ordeal, the Camaro tracked amazingly well, considering the tire had disappeared.

Yikes, amazing the car emerged mainly undamaged. My guess is that the tire took out a brake line and you lost all your brake fluid and that was it for the brakes. It sure could have been a lot worse.

Yes, got very lucky. No visible damage to the body or fender well. Wheel got some nicks but not bad either. Buuuutt...it may be my excuse to get a nice aftermarket set now...grin...

Any drive you can walk away from was a good drive.

Any drive you can walk away from and still use the car again was a GREAT drive!

Glad all is reasonably OK!

That's an incredible pic. I didn't think that was possible. Contact the tire company and say you had a problem. haha

The roads are brutal here in SoNev but I am surprised that this Cooper tire didn't hold up longer. They were put on the car last summer just before I bought it and they have a date code of Jan/19. There's about 16K miles on them. I'm going to have to rethink Cooper if this is the kind of product they produce these days.

Thanks for the well-wishes guys. Headed out to remove it now that I have changed my shorts. Tire shop will have a replacement for me tomorrow.

Damn brother! That's all those monster rips you are letting your granddaughter do!

JK. Glad you are ok man. That could have ended badly.

Man those Coopers have a stiff sidewall. It's still holding the rim off the ground.

Wow Danial, so glad you are ok and the Camaro isn't damaged and you got her stopped alright. This happened to a friend of mine on his Charger and wasn't so lucky, totaled the car. Good luck sir!!

Dude, that's messed up. Where'd you get those tires, and what are they rated? Do you do a lot of pulls and heavy driving, or is this just a defective tire (or a combo of both since tires shouldn't rip apart at 80 regardless of how hard you have been driving before)?

haha Ok ok I knew that was coming.
Seriously though, I can count the number of times on one hand we've done burn outs with the car. I'm just not a big fan of that.

And yeah, how 'bout that sidewall? I coasted on that for probably a quarter mile too, before coming to a stop. Too bad the rest of the sidewall wasn't that tough.
