[QUOTE=InFiD3ViL;10905676]All this goes out the window once the L99 (and TCM tune) is touched. Because then it becomes any other 6.2 liter LS, for all intents and purposes. Yes, it is still an L99, even when an 'LS3 conversion' is done, but that's when it is better to just refer to it as an 6.2 LS.

So what is an L99 called after the DOD system is deleted and the VVT kept?

An L99 with AFM deleted and VVT kept lol.

I have seen people get in arguments here about calling an LS3 converted L99 an LS3. I don't care either way, definitely not enough to argue with someone. If it was me I would just be proud of my L99 being whatever I made it into, but that's just me. It's all just words imo.

I guess what I am saying is...yes, in stock form the L99 leaves a lot to be desired - Especially when compared to the stock Coyote, 392, even the Dodge 5.7 (that one hurts). Once modded the L99 can be just as potent as any equally modded LS3, 4.065 inch bored LY6, L94, etc... part for part. I bought my L99 powered SS in totally stock form. It felt quick when I got it...until I went up against some other cars. That is when I said 'Is that all you've got?!'. I was not only surprised, I was actually kinda let down. But that was quickly remedied with $$$.

The problem I have noticed is that somehow the L99 only gets judged in stock form (maybe rightfully so), while that doesn't seem to apply as much to everyone else. I think I am wording this poorly, but I think you all can figure out what I mean. It isn't just the L99 itself that is at fault in stock form. The ECM and TCM tunes are major contributing factors to this. I really think GM dropped the ball on the stock L99 when compared to the LS3, which can primarily be blamed on the AFM and requirement to meet CAFE standards. Lower compression, lower redline (heavier valvetrain), smaller cam profile, and a poorly optimized tune really handicapped it from the start. They castrated the L99 car from the beginning.
I 100% understand what you mean. When I got mines it felt quick until lining up with some newer cars and then I knew I had to start modding it.

Exactly. Different head castings, lighter hollow stem valves, different oil pump, different SCR, different cam, different vin lol J instead of a W. I'm a happy L99 guy. The reason why is all in my sig!

What I post my next time slips in the 10's we can all talk about how terrible the L99 is

Some people just like to say I have a LS3 or LS7, the L99 is slow. I guess it fills their egos. I definitely shocked a few peeps at the racetrack when they found out my car is a VVT L99.

You L99 GUYS ROCK!!! I also love my L99, convert. lol. Still I call it an L99 when folks ask at the shows, because she still is, only the top parts have been changed. I get from the LS3 guys sometimes, but it isn't an LS3! So I just tell them that I will out run you AND out shift you. When they hear what I'm running, they usually back off. lol. As far as I see it, she is more fun to drive that an LS3 stick car. Love love love her!!

I adore the LS3 I swapped into my car, but my OG L99 is sitting on a stand in the living room, nicely wrapped and fogged to keep her safe and warm. I have very big plans for it and intend to rebuild and then reunite it back where it belongs...under my hood. I don't think matching numbers is really a thing anymore with these cars (no VIN stamping), but I would love to have the original block back in her. I just wish I hadn't already sold the 823's.

All the crap i have ever gotten is from people who don't own anything worth lining up to, my best friend has a 2014 Mustang GT, we have never raced but he has been in my car after the LT, tune and exhaust was done and mentioned it was faster than his car(Roush exhaust). All i know my car although i have had regrets of buying it at times is alot faster than what i ever need; currently have a GPI SS2, Circle D 3200, 3.91 and a Vararam waiting to go in once i get the courage and dedication to get started. Only problem now is that the longer i wait to install the more sh*t i keep buying, with all this black friday deals that 150 shot nitrous outlet kit is looking damn tempting.

L99-LS3 whatever.... the real difference to me is the trans and the rear gearing. stock motor for motor throw a 3.42 in a auto car and it will kick a manual ass.
i have had both the stick was more fun but the auto is a better daily. stock on paper speed wise they are a even match, that being said dod sucks.
off topic,my L99 tuned with dod turned off is the same MPG'S as i did with my "tuned" LS3 car.
