Question Winter Storage

Hello everyone!

As this is my first time storing a car for winter, I thought it couldn't hurt if I wrote down my winterizing procedure here in case anyone else had some extra tips/tricks I could also try. Or at the very least help others with their list.
  • Wash
  • Oil Change
  • Car Cover
  • Jack stands - all 4 wheels off the ground
  • Covering tailpipes/intake
  • Full tank of gas with stabilizer
  • Top off coolant
  • Dehumidifier inside car
  • Battery tender
  • Leather conditioner
  • In garage
  • Tarp under car
  • Rodent/insect repellent

I'm sure there is something that I missed on the list, but hey that's what this thread is for!

I have stored my car past 3 winters. Never used jackstands and never had a problem with flat spots. Inflated tires to 43-45psi.. put carpet squares under tires...dont know what tarp under car is going to achieve...the place i store my car doesnt allow to cover the entire concrete floor like that.

cbr1100xx - lol, this car means quite a bit to me.

tecboy - that's great to hear you haven't had flat spot issues because I would love the ease of leaving the car on the ground, maybe I will. Will probably put new radials on the summer list anyways.

It’s not recommended to put the car on stands and let the suspension hang for a period of time, just what I’ve been told by a retire GM engineer. If it’s on a cement floor no need for a tarp under the car, if it was a dirt or gravel floor different story. I have never heard of putting a dehumidifier inside the car, I have never used one in 6 years of storage and it still smells new. Other than that you are good to go.

Thanks for the input man. Yeah I think I will leave it off the stands. As for the dehumidifying; I figured a packet of some sort on the passenger floor couldn't hurt and would only help.

Putting the car in transport mode may lighten the load on the tender.
