2SS 1LE or ZL1
What does everyone think, 2SS 1LE or a ZL1?
I know there's a big price difference and on paper horsepower difference, but is the there a huge difference in real life or just different animals not worth comparing. The cars are going to be tracked or anything like that, just spirited driving and back roads. Both would be 2021s. |

Almost identical except for the HP. If the extra hp is worth the $$$ go for it, if not hold off.

I have had both, recently. There is a very noticeable difference in power. Just had my 2ss out last night, and its great, but the LT4 in the ZL1 is and animal. It pulls so much harder, and the grunt seems endless compared to my 2ss car. You will feel the difference, but you pay for that extra HP. I too just use my toy car for short spirited hops out here in the country, I dont do tracks.
So is it noticeable difference in power...yes. Is it worth the extra $15-20K..well thats up to you.

i just went through a similar situation on deciding between a used zl1 or a new SS 1LE. I decided new SS 1LE was the better choice for myself. Aside from the engine, clutch if manual, bumper, lights, and side skirts, i believe they are the same interior wise.
Personally it came down to im not into street racing, so on the street i didnt believe id notice an appreciable difference in performance while staying near legal speeds to justify the $15K. Considering even with the supercar 3's traction is the limiting factor on an unprepped surface. You can always supercharge the lt1 down the road too... |

My personal opinion is that a 500HP car is max for street. My opinion. I have said this for years now.

As stated the LT4 is an ANIMAL....Just traded my 2SS M6 for a ZL1 A10
Even on remote start it sounds meaner.

2SS 1LE is the most expensive trim of an SS. I’d go ZL1 since it’s not a ton more. 1SS vs ZL1, SS for me. I paid low $30s so another $25k wasn’t worth it for power I couldn’t really use gas mpg that would go from bad to horrible.

So oddly I was in the market for a Hyper Blue 2SS 1LE with no sunroof. I wanted an 18 because I didn't like the tail lights. I literally could not find the car I wanted so I ended up with a 2017 Hyper Blue ZL1. I'm not crying mind you, but a 2SS 1LE would have been more than enough for me. The ZL1 is like having extra icing on your cake. You really can't go wrong either way. If you have the means the ZL1 is probably the better choice, but it's overkill on the street.

If you already have the 1SS 1LE, I don't think the 2SS features are worth the extra cost.
I have also owned both the SS and ZL1, both auto. Obviously the ZL1 is faster on paper and in reality; but to me, the experience behind the wheel (sotp) was NOT night and day at WOT after 2nd gear. I could however see the manual ZL1 being a worthy upgrade over the manual SS1LE for a more satisfying pull through the long Tremec gearing, especially if mainly for back road fun. You ultimately need to test drive the ZL1 to see for yourself, as this is all very subjective. Depends what car the 500hp is in and you style of driving. Black key "500" hp hellcat isn't impressive or enough but in the c6Z06 it's perfect, imo.
