Get the diff fluid done early, I would say 1500 miles. You'll surprised how much black goop is on the mag drain plug.

I also use Amsoil Severe Gear with slip lock. Best synthetic diff fluid available based on my research and experience (although I prefer bottle/pump). GM doesn't produce oil, they market a product

I’d argue that these units are particular to the amount of additive and the original spec fluid is a safe bet. Likely the amsoil oil is better but the amount of additive is the question

Per the owners manual, you only need to change fluid at the prescribed intervals or after 15 hours of track time

When changing the rear end oil, is there a limited slip type of additive that is needed, or is it just straight oil?

The link in post 5 is the recommended oil. It comes with the additive. Just pour the bottle in and nothing else.

I cannot speak on the other oil others are mentioning but the GM recommend oil works very well.

I've always been a big fan of Royal Purple. What weight did you use and what additive did you use?

Royal Purple usually fares the worst in standardized tests. Their gear oil is junk, and so is their motor oil (the filters are good). It's not about what your buddy uses or what GM is marketing, recommendations must be based on science

Yes, this is an Amsoil site, but I've seen these tests performed independently on numerous forums and Amsoil gear oil consistently comes out on top

I always read that Royal Purple is good quality oil.

Use Royal Purple gear oil. Over 9000 track miles with it and through several gear oil changes. No metal sludge on the drain plugs anymore.
