Question for any owners who've swapped out their third brake light. Any tips on removing the stock light. I plan to do this tomorrow. I thought I'd use a hair dryer to loosen the glue up first. I have some plastic trim removal tools but I'm concerned about scratching the paint and more so damaging the black vinyl we have on our Fifty trunk lids. I guess I also have to watch how much heat I apply to the vinyl on the bottom half of the light. I struggle to be rough with my car and I know this requires so major prying to get it off. I've watched some video's and everybody seems to have slightly different methods. I don't have any fishing line so hoping I don't need that.

Any advise is apricated.

I taped the area off with painters tape first. Then I used a hairdryer to warm it up a bit. Then I used a trim tool to pry/break the seal. Then I just pulled. The longest part was getting all the old gasket/seal residue off.

Thanks Adam, did you tape the area before or after applying some heat ? Just wondering if the heat would loosen the adhesive on the painters tape also making it unusable.

Likely I'm over thinking it as always.

Cyrus, you're overthinking it You don't need heat at all, the edge trim adhesive on these 3rd brake lights is more for insulation than adhesion. The light is secured in its place by 2x4 (not particularly tight) clips, four top and four bottom.

As suggested above, surround it with a strip of painter's tape, then gently pry with a plastic trim tool and pull out. Watch a few youtube videos first to boost your confidence.

EDIT: here's a pic of my original lamp to help you visualize what this unit looks like. The connector's in the middle, don't pull too far before disconnecting it

You’re welcome. I did the heat after the tape. No issues. And don’t worry I overthought it as well. But watch some videos. Lethal Camaro has a decent one. As do many other people.

Plastic trim tool was it for me. Used some 3M adhesive remover to get the rest of the foam ‘stuff’ off. Make sure the orientation of the new one is correct, there should be an ‘UP’ arrow on it. Not being funny, or anything else, just something that could get overlooked. There’s no additional adhesive foam.

Good luck.

Oh yeah! Good call out on the direction. I peeled the backing off and almost mounted mine upside down. Easy to overlook.

Thanks for all the advice. I got it done today it was easy other than getting all the adhesive off the paint. My hands have a permanent smell of goo gone now. Looks so much better. I have a long list of mods I'm in the process of doing I'll post pics when I'm done them all in the next few days.

Was anyone on this forum tooling around Myrtle Beach, SC today? If so, and you remember passing a Fifty Vert, that was me.

Hey guys, i need some help, I am adding a ZL1 1LE style spoiler wing and I would like to add the FIFTY decals to it just like our OEM one.
Where can I find those decals to purchase??

Thank you all in advance! =)
