Thoughts on 2022 Subaru BRZ?

The reviews for this new BRZ are very positive. Yes, it’s lower on power than any Camaro but certainly lighter and more purpose built. 6 speed, killer handling, reasonably practical. If my Camaro deal takes forever or goes sour this is a car that is on a short list of possible alternatives. Just curious what y’all guys and gals think of the car? The styling isn’t going blow anyone away but it’s clean and inoffensive IMO. Many nice updates over the previous gen BRZ. Price is right in line with the 6th gen Camaro I ordered! I know the Toyota GR86 is the same car too but with the Toyota badge.

** Not bailing or giving up on the Camaro! Just seeing what others think here.

test drove one back in '16 when I bought my genesis coupe.
it was, hands down, the best handling car I have ever driven and was MUCH easier to corner than both of my evo's... that said when coming out of a corner and stepping on the gas, it's pretty uninspiring. needs another 100hp.. poor salesgirl was NOT impressed with hitting 90 on a sweeping corner on the test drive

most of them I see around here are dropped to the weeds, cambered rims riding on 2" of tire and multiple fartcans coming out the back. don't see too many that have been "tastefully" modded.
would be a fun daily driver tho.

Thanks - yeah, I assumed the power would be lacking as 228hp is just 228hp. But at least the 2022 has been bumped up in performance. Im not surprised some have received the fart can treatment. Ugh, lol.

Still, its an interesting alternate choice.

If autox is your game.. good luck catching them. they are FAST. Same weight + 30hp.. yeah, good luck.

Don't expect to win any stop light drags against the v6 camry in the other lane!

It is an excellent car. The got rid of the torque dip and increased the power. And it looks better for the most part.

But can you even get one right now with all the shortages?

Coworker's husband has a first gen BRZ and absolutely loves it but I've never driven one. I like them, but I'm a big guy and always think I will look like a gorilla in a clown car if I drive something that small. I certainly did when I was in my mother's first-gen Miata.

They do build solid cars, though - my DD is a Crosstrek and other than really thin paint, I'm happy with the quality. Mine has a CVT and I'm not totally sold on the longevity of those, but with an M6 it should be reliable for a long time.

2022s are awesome. You won’t get V8 sound and thrust but what fun and nimble car and still has adequate power for the streets for sure.

My daughter just bought a 2022 Crosstrek and I asked the guy at our local dealer what the scoop was on the BRZ. He said I can order it there with NO money upfront and test it when it gets there. Either buy it or walk away. 90-120 days they are told to expect the wait time to be.

Not that I am going to consider ordering one - unless Plan A falls on its face. .

screw it, just go get a 2017 or 2018 STI. Hands down a better call all around.

Definitely a more serious performance car but.... used STI's are like E36 series used BMW M3's from the good old days: You can be assured they were thrashed pretty damned good and Im not sure I want to go down that path. Even if service is/was up to date. They live rough lives. Not for me!
