I had this occur to me once. Dealer just replaced the whole instrument panel once I brought them a video to prove this happened.

Since there was no alarm, it is likely a bad motor behind the tach needle. Take these photos to your dealer. They will likely replace the cluster and ship your glitchy one to GM.

Happened to me once, was fine after I restarted the car. I posted about it too but seems to be rare

This happened to me today; restarting the car did not work; I had to let the car sit with the engine off a second time for a few minutes for it to begin working again. I'm going to contact my dealership tomorrow if a loose fuse is not the issue.

the old thread

Hi,
the same problem happened to me today. I brought the car to the dealership but it started working when the guy started the car
so They said they cannot do anything about it as it works now.
Does anybody have the recurrent issues after the first time?

Thanks

So no solution to offer, but I did have this dead tach happen 2 or 3 times with my 2016 1LT V6 RS over the course of around 40K miles. It always came right back the next time I drove it... and with the auto trans, it wasn't a big concern to chase down something that intermittent.

My 2011 has done this several times lately. Battery is low and car has been sitting. I will report back. And stabilitrack light is on. I think I just charge battery real good, reflash my tune and all will be good.

BTW, long time member, 60,000 miles and 12 years old a few months back. Zero problems with this car and still love it

Mine just did it for the first time. Turned off the car and waited 5 minutes, fixed it. Here’s a video for future reference
