katech truck oil pump

Katech - Gen-V L83/L86 Wet Sump Oil Pump Thought of putting this in my camaro lt1. Says needs tuning, where or what would i need to change in hptuners. (yes im a newb tuner and building my lt1 and just want to get it started to get to GPI to tune.) Katech states high volume and high pressure pump.

Virtually no difference in pressure so you might as just well use the LT1-specified pump:

TY .. I checked it out and then asked there about how much volume is added. Is what i am looking for mostly.

Respectfully, you’re answering a question that no one is asking lol. What evidence do you have that suggests the current as-delivered oil pump volume is inadequate? Oiling on these LT1 cars have been very solid. So many other places to focus on instead (pistons, fueling, etc). If you’re opening up the engine for other work then by all means use the Katech pump, but otherwise…

Sorry took so long to reply. Yes doing pretty much a full rebuild. Has engine building changed where more volume is bad? If I do put in the truck pump, i need to know where i need to go in HPtuners to change settings per the statement on Katech's website. hence asking in a tuning section about this. Thanks for your input, if you have insight on this i would appreciate the info. If no one here knows i will email Katech.

Mike at Katech answered this question, it’s a waste of time unfortunately. The clearances in the engine aren’t changing so your attempt to flow more volume will result in higher pressure, which you don’t need. It will just heat up the oil more and increase parasitic losses.

Yes he said 5 pounds (read the post) I actually asked about volume there and no one answered that question. I understand what you are saying and not trying to beat a dead horse. One person stated that pressure does not = volume and i understand that
(Higher volume and pressure than the A7502, can be used in LT1/LT2 engines with tuning..) is whats stated on their website.
Is all good and was not trying to be a goob, Just is my first lt1 build (built tons of 350 and 400 small blocks with my brother) and always used high volume pumps. Thanks for the info, i will stick to the stock volume then... Thanks again
And after much thought i am deleting DOD, VVT, and piston squirters, so that will get volume and pressure up to my bearings.

Not knowing any better, why would you delete the piston squirters (oilers)? Don't they help keep the pistons cooler?
