Question How Much Will Dealership Charge For Starter Replacement

I don't do work on my car at any other place than my dealership because it is good. Need to get my starter replaced the part looks pretty cheap and I can do it myself but can't right now. I'm homeless and don't have any of my tools at this time. How much would they charge me because I looked it up and this website said $400-$500
And should I buy the part myself and take it or do they not like that?

The starter through GM should run you around $125, and you can call the dealership and ask them what the book says for a starter R/R. Should be around 1.5 hours, maybe 2. At @$100 an hour labor (low est.?), that would put you around $400 pretty quick with some other miscellaneous charges. It's an easy job to do yourself with just a few tools. You can probably find the starter cheaper too through Rock Auto or Auto Anything.....

Drive down to south jersey and I'll help you put it in. I've got jack, ramps and tools. I'll even feed you and give you gas money, especially if your truly homeless. I live 40 minutes from Philly. Btw I'm serious. It is Christmas time and time to pay it forward. Carl

I know it's not going to be that expensive, but if you have to ask then why not try it yourself? It's not difficult. If you did your headers you can do a starter

Depends on your relationship with the dealer. Sometimes a dealership will cut a break for regular good customer for something as simple as this. However, I think most will book everything at least one hour labor. On a lift this is about a 15 minute job. It's really pretty easy.

Why not call the dealer and ask? Be sure to warn him you have headers, that will add some time.

Alldata shows .9 hr to replace. Shop rate of my dealer is $100/hr. So at my shop it would be $90 to replace plus cost of part. If you can get it on ramps or jack stands (please don't just use a jack) It's a very easy install. Just be careful not to over tighten the wires on the positive and start posts, as they tent to break off if over torqued.
