Welcome back from the dead

Other than that, I still use landline for internet (Century Link). Though I have cable too, basically one for the wife, and one for business. Since I can't have two modems from xfinity.

I believe landlines still have the advantage of the 911 feature. If you press 911, the authorities will know your address and where the call is coming from even if you don't say a word...and they will investigate the call regardless....You know the stories...elderly who cannot speak, wife and kids hiding from a burglar in a closet not wanting to make a sound, etc....

Not sure if mobile phones can do the same...

I didn't realize that this was an old thread when I started reading it. I noticed some of the member names and was thinking how I hadn't seen some of them post in a while!

On another note, I wonder how many that posted before are still with the same setup or have changed?

Myself, I went completely wireless in 2015 when I moved. But like others have mentioned from the "landline side", I'm also not tied to my phone... it's always on vibrate, only family and work has the number, and I can go hours without looking at the annoying thing!

I haven't had a landline in any of my apartments or houses, ever. I haven't missed it for the last 24 years.

Landline is great for clarity and for emergencies. For instance during a bad storm with the power out, cell phone service was almost non existent.

Also when having long conversations the cell phone gets my ear hot and I feel funny. I can use the landline all day and feel fine.

Seriously though, I don't have a need for a landline. My internet connection is effectively a landline anyway.

I just read a story that said 35.8% of the USA does not have landline phones.

15.9% still have landlines, but they never or rarely use them.

That means 48.2% of people still have landlines and are using them as their main source of phone communication! I thought it would be less!

What's a land line???? J/K. No we ditched our almost 15 yrs ago.

Have a landline b/c work requires one in case of emergency recall. Use the landline number whenever I fill out forms and when a website or shop requires one for purchase or whatnot. Comes in very handy in that regard, when the number invariably get sold it goes to the landline VM and I get a notification and a voice recording if one was left.
