I just did my 2nd diff fluid change today (at 1,500 miles, first was at 505 miles)... A little bit of "smudge" on the magnetic plugs but overall the fluid looked great... I'll probably do the differential every other oil change going forward (every 5000-6000 miles)...

Yes, it takes about 1.2 qts (2SS with LS Differential)... Super easy to change... Get a fluid pump from Amazon...

I’ve got 84k miles, idk about the first 61k but I haven’t touched the it. I hear the smell is awful so that’ll be fun

Change it, it is VERY easy and isn't as smelly as some gear lube...

Mine at 505 miles as well as at 1,500 miles (today) both looked damn near new, slight discoloration and some "smudging" on the magnetic plugs, but overall looked very good... Cheap insurance to change it...

For someone who doesn't track and just uses it for street use would you guys consider it ok to wait? The dealer said about 30-40k unless I hear groaning. In my current handicap and medical situation (walk with a cane cause bad lower back and left leg) I can't really do these things like I used too. My car is at 1475 miles and I got it in late February. After I get to the 1500 mile break in it will probably be driven about 100-300 miles per month with the winter months being much much less if any miles driven at all. This is my first Camaro and I want to take care of it for a long time. EDIT: I did check some local places and my dealer was actually the cheapest to provide the service believe it or not.

Fluid

At 600 it was black, much better at 1923 miles but a bit dark.

I would do it at 1,500 miles (to get all the initial break in metal out of there) and then probably every 10,000-15,000 miles if you are just street driving the car...

Wow, mine at 505 miles still looked damn near new (as did it at 1,500 miles), I'd be concerned with diff fluid that black after only 600 miles...

Isn’t it possible that the darkness is caused by assembly grease, like molybdenum disulfide from the assembly process? I mean it would make a lot of sense if it took a couple of flushes to get it all out.

No idea but my 2SS diff fluid looked damn near new when I drained it at 505 miles as well as again at 1,500 miles... A little smudging on the magnetic plugs but that was about it...

I did mine at 17K miles. Easy to do, and fluid was not all that dirty which surprised me with very little metal on the drain plug magnet.

I will say I don't baby it too much nor abuse it, and it may matter being it's the E-diff in my 1le. Fluid looks dark in the pic at 1900+ miles but was still clear looking as it poured out. At 600 it was black...

There's clutches in there, no matter how many times you change it, every time you change it it's going to be darker with some metallic residue in it. If it ever comes out Crystal Clear, then it probably means your limited-slip is shot. :-)
