Fresh paint question. Curing
So just got my car back from the body shop because i hit a raccoon. They had to repaint the bumper and it looks like there is weird finger looking spots on it that i couldnt get up with quick detailer. Does anybody know if that’s normal with paint curing or do i have a problem?

You have a problem. It should look perfect from the shop. Water based paints dry very quickly. Curing only applies to the eventual hardness of the finish.

Not normal, there should not be any spot at all. Most likely they touched the bumper and it wasn't dry enough.
After 24h the paint should be dry enough to manipulate and it takes a couple of days for it to dry completely in order to buff it if needed.

That's fresh paint? Why does it look all swirled?

I would bring it back and ask them to fix it. Looks like a Polish is needed but let them fix it.

Make them fix it. I would be kind though, I wouldn't raise hell unless they started acting like idiots and refusing to help.
I do have a question for you though, just because it's Saturday, I'm bored as f and I've had a few drinks. lul... How fast where you going when you hit the raccoon? I'm pretty sure you don't know the exact speed, but, what would you guess? |

Seems like a body shop that doesn't like to change their spray booth filters so they just cut the fresh paint with heavy compound to remove the dirt and crap. Unfortunately, that takes out a lot of the orange peel thickess which (may or may not) be good depending on the texture of the original factory paint.
The little white specks look like contamination so hopefully they can be buffed out without making the clearcoat too thin in that area. |
