Solo High Flow Cats

My car is bone stock right now (L99), but I am getting ready to do a few mods over the winter. I've decided to get the solo-high flow cats and either a cat back or axle back exhaust.

Right now I'm leaning towards Solo's axle back, because I'm not sure the cat back will add much more sound then the axle back, and I can save a few hundred bucks. Am I thinking in the right direction? I would like to avoid doing a tune so that I have a fighting chance of keeping my warranty.

i went with solo hiflos and corsa catbacks. i did the catbacks first and decided i needed a little more growl and added the hiflos...sounds just right now.

It is recommended to tune out the rear o2 sensors with hi flows, but many people have had good luck without tuning them out and using alternate methods. Neither the catback or axleback require a tune.

Solo claims on there website that no tune is needed.

Is there any reason I should get a cat back instead of an axle back to go with the high flow cats?

Don't think it has anything to do with HF cats, but a catback on an L99 will get rid of that big, honkin' resonator and likely replace it with an X-pipe depending on which kit.

The PCM will adjust for the added airflow but in many cases will throw a CEL with the cats. Some have had luck and didn't throw a code but many haven't been so lucky.

If you're staying with a 2.5in system, you can do either. The catback will in most cases be mandrel bent where as the OEM is pressbent. It's not really that big of a deal since there aren't any BIG bends in the system. Performance wise, there's no difference. A catback will also replace the huge resonator/H pipe section on the L99. If you go with a axleback, you can have a muffler shop cut out that section and replace it with a X pipe. This car NEEDS a crossover or it will lose HP and tq. A Magnaflow true X pipe runs around $80. Any muffler shop will be able to do the work for less than $100.

Doesn't that big honkin' resonator help reduce the AFM noise when it kicks on? That is another reason I was thinking an axleback may be better. I know I'm going to hear the AFM no matter what, but I was hoping to keep it at a minimum.

my personal recommendation is to put on the solo hi-flows first and leave the stock exhaust on. I have an LS3, so my exhaust is different, but dang it sounds so much nicer with the Solos. I don't even feel like I need to upgrade the exhaust anymore. The only reason I would might be to change the tone, because with the current setup I have no drone and it's several times louder at WOT.

I also have not heard of one case on Camaro5 where a person installed solo high flow cats and threw a code... other brands, yes. But not Solo.

Either way it will sound good. The only thing I would mention is that if you change the axleback you won't be able to find a mid pipe that bolts up down the road. So if you even add some big power you'll still be running the factory H-pipe which might cost you some power. If you don't plan on getting to crazy with it the axleback should be just fine as the stock catback doesn't have much restriction at all.

Cab2g has a good idea to. You can always run just the cats, you'll be surprised how good that sounds!

I added the Solo Hi-flows first, really opened up the sound. No CEL. Had that on for about 4 wks, then added the Solo Mach XL catback. Wow, that really adds a much deeper note to the exhaust. Sounds great. No CEL.

Love me some Solo.

Hi Guys, we worked long and hard to keep the CEL light out when it comes to the High-Flow Cats. We're glad that you're enjoying our efforts! Thanks so much for the feedback and feel free to call if you have any questions etc.

Well I think I go with cats first, see how it sounds and then go from there. Are they something I could istall myself or should I let a shop handle it?
