Hard water

Thought I would share this insight! I would get what looked like polish residue around the edges of shark fin antenna on the trunk lid which on dark paint looked like crap. I determined it was not polish residue and thought it was a paint defect. Under warranty the dealer had paint and body shop "fix it" and I assumed they did some paint touchup. Some time later it was back again. I decided to remove the antenna and check it our myself. Turns out it was just hard water build up. I removed most of it with CLR and since I was doing paint correction anyway the DA Polisher cleaned the rest up. I finished it off with a ceramic coating which turned out awesome!

If you don't know, the antenna has a small rubber seal that covers the hole through the trunk but water can sit under the rest of the antenna housing and it weeps out around the edges and dries which causes hard water deposits.

Yupp hard water here in Phx too. I usually wash mine 2 times a year. I do the back 1/2, rinse & dry & the front 1/2 rinse & dry. White is easy to take care of & it doesn't rain much here when it's out of the garage for the spring until Nov.
