Cam shaft/piston drop ins

So this is my quote for fuel pump, injectors and cam and drop in pistons.. is it normally that much for labour for hours? 24hrs + 12hrs so 36hrs just for engine?? They are tearing out the engine already so cam shouldnt be long at all.. maybe 5 hours max... what do you guys think? Parts are in canadian dollars

Oh and there is no labour there for headers and the headers would be deleted on this quote so still 36hrs worth

Well I paid $4,700 USD for labor and all I had was drop-in pistons and headers...so that labor cost looks good to me.

no idea if that is fair or not but I can tell you it takes some time to get all that work done. it took me quite awhile to file fit the rings and install the pistons. just changing the valve springs with the heads all ready on the bench took me an hour or so. I had a couple of hours just in cleaning stuff up. I am sure a shop is faster at all that stuff than me but it is time consuming work.

Feels excessive to me. But, gotta pay to play. Even more so when it comes to "the new stuff."

$25,000 sale of car
$11,600 OP build (usd)
$15,000 for the sarcasm
----------------------------
$51,600 so it adds up. One should find a nice used and abused ZL1 for that, so I must agree

to the OP. Converted and removing your parts list Im coming up with around $4,500 or so for labor, build, dyno and street drivability tuning. Looks reasonable to me.

I would never spend that on an upgrade which gives you NO warranty. Trade the SS in on a ZL1.....just my 2 cents.

If you’re going to have your motor out do it right with a piston and rod swap especially with a PD supercharger. Find a friend to help you pull the engine and take the long block to the shop, that should cut the cost a good bit. Also have them change your cam parts to an LT engine, all the items listed are for an LS, not saying that’s a big deal but you want a quote for exactly what you’re getting IMO.

The zl1 6 gens are unicorns in canada lol. Dealership wouldnt even ship one in. Said 53 canada gets a year that it lol. So stuck with a ss. Mines supercharged already and pushes same as a zl1 i just want to push it further but safely.. i might see if they can throw a deal in as they did the blower this last summer too. Pistons are a must and same with fuel and injectors but ive read lots of forums they say the powder forged rods are good enough and the performance shop said they agree and called a few manufacturers to double check, otherwise they gotta balance it and send it away sadly haha

I'd put a Magnuson 2300 Heartbeat on it and spend at least 5K less. You might be able to install that yourself in a weekend. You'll make about 550 rwhp and not have to tear the motor down and take a chance on something else happening.

the shortblock also needs a light hone for the new pistons, that takes some time to do properly.
Out the door for my setup I paid ~11K, just for reference. But every shop is different.
I also don't have upgraded injectors or low-side pump. But I did get extensive headwork done, so that kinda evens out the labor hours.
Your price seems a bit on the expensive side, but fair.

I wouldn't hesitate to drop the motor myself, if I had a crane. That would save ~50% labor hours.
