I second this sentiment. I've been changing my own oil since 1978, and have used just about every oil filter brand known to man. Never had an oil related issue. Does this say anything specific,....probably not, but if you change your oil and filter at the correct general intervals, I'm of the belief that you're likely to not ever experience an oil/filter related failure.

The Fram filters are especially vulnerable to collapse and failure due to the fact that the internals are all cardboard and paper elements where all other filters have metal internals with the paper elements. So you can actually have failure and not even know it. You could basically be re-circulating un-filtered oil for several thousand miles.

Mobil 1 and Wix filter for me. Do your research on filters before you buy next time or talk to some people who race big $$ motors. JMO

I had a friend try the amsoil that is good for 25,000 miles. I said no way. He sent it out to blackstone after 15000 and they estimated another 5000 out of it. I could not believe it. Mine is so dirty after 5000 I will not go longer than 4000.

Ha! All hype. Just like so many other claims. And not just from the cheap-o brands....but from all the overrated expensive ones that so many of you buy religiously.
We are all guilty.

My guess would be that the folks who let 15k or more pass between oil changes aren't buying their own filters anyhow.

You would have to be a fool to try and get the full 15k miles out of it - Unfortunately, there are plenty of fools around.

Worse now, Mobil 1 makes an ANNUAL oil, supposedly good for 20k miles/1 year.
As long as it meets the requirements of the engine it will work. The reason we change oil is not because the oil turns to junk, it's all the junk that gets in the oil. We could use the same bath water for years too.

Wix or OEM for the V6 on Mobil 1 for street (daily driving), Amsoil or Redline for the track.. However, on my Mercedes, the factory recommends 1year or 10k miles on a long life type synthetic oil. My wife wont let me touch her MB, she takes it in to the dealer. I hate it when she does, costs a fortune!
OEM for my Goldwing with Motul 10-40 7100. I go 5-6k miles between changes.

It is pretty interesting to see the oil filter comparison videos on youtube, where they open them up after use. The cheap ones are real cheaply made.

I run Amsoil Signature Series Motor Oil with a WIX or AC Delco Filter. I change my oil and filter at 4-5k miles, sometimes less.

Right on, Old Dude. Our collective wisdom is worth, well, a good oil filter, I suppose! This is my first all Amsoil change (oil & filter) and I really feel like the oil life clock is moving much slower. Didn’t document anything though.
