Stock power Hellcat runs 10.56

Hey all..

I'll admit I'm a Mopar guy deep down, among other things, and this is impressive.

Stock power levels, the only mods done were an aluminum DS, rear end gears and tires.

http://www.torquenews.com/106/new-he...d-set-michigan

That's really moving..especially given the fact that certain people here said it would never happen.

Bone stock 1st Gen ZL1's have run 11.5's on here. Swap the gears and tires and I'd see them hitting high 10's. Gears and tires make a huge difference!

I would imagine the Gen6 A10 has the capability to break into the 10's BONE STOCK. Again, Gen5's have run 11.5's off the showroom floor.

That is GM's estimate, which is known to be conservative. Just look at the regular SS times easily beating GM's estimates...

Are you referring to the gear swap making a huge difference in the Hellcat? The only swap being done in the Hellcat (unless it's moving to the DSS 9") is the 3.09 bolt-in center. The stock A8 gear is 2.62 for reference. This swap is worth .1 sec at the strip, so I wouldn't categorize it as a huge difference.

If what you're saying is true, it's only worth a .1 sec. 1/4 mile difference , then so be it. With that being said, swapping gears, adding a lighter driveshaft AND putting drag radials on vehicle is a huge difference. I stand by my statement. Try running that 10.56 with the stock rear-end, stock driveshaft and the All-Season 275's the car comes with from the factory. Those mods shaved at least .5 sec. from his 1/4.

Nobody is saying it is not impressive. This second coming of the muscle car wars has been a blast so far. I'm a dedicated GM guy, but I can appreciate them all.

First of all, what I said IS true and it's well documented in Hellcat circles.
As far as I know, the current low time with a totally stock car is 11.08. The record holder with only a drag radial only is 10.62. That driveshaft isn't doing much of anything and if swapping to a set of MT drag radials is your idea of a huge difference then we can just agree to disagree. The only reason for the shaft swap is because they have been known to twist the at the strip.

Ok. So what I said was true. The gears, driveshaft and tires were good for ~.5 sec. savings in the 1/4. 11.08--->10.56

I see no reason to argue here. Even as a dedicated GM guy, I've already stated that I appreciate all American muscle. As for my first statement, "gears and tires make a huge difference", I stand by it. .5 sec. in the 1/4 is an eternity.

It has an impressive engine, but what else? Same can be said for the '13-'14 GT500. It has an impressive engine but what else?

Does it brake well? No.
Does it corner well? No.
Anything special about the suspension? No

Both these cars will get beat on a road track against a ZL1, be it the 5th gen or 6th gen. And it does not take a lot of $$$ in aftermarket to step up the power to race in a straight line.

The GT350 is a step in the right direction if Ford can keep them from catching on fire.

But seriously, how many people have actually gone 170mph or faster in a car? Far fewer than people who own a car capable of that speed.

My 2cents

Not sure why you decided to throw the Shelby into it, but ok. To me Hellcats are impressive, because it is a 10sec @ 125+mph 1/4 mile car with just the help of some good rear tires. Not only does it do that, but it has ALL the bells and whistles. Interior is VERY nice. It brakes good. It handles good. All with a factory warranty. All for a very reasonable price.

The Shelby is very similar to the Hellcat, except it is better than the Hellcat in the handling braking delartment.

14-15 ZL1 is also another amazing machine. It handles amazing, it brakes amazing, with plenty of power but it does get eclipsed in the acceleration department by both the Hellcat and the Shelby. Interior is also very nice but not as nice as the Hellcat's or Shelby's.

The new ZL1 will be just as fast as the Hellcat and Shelbys, but much better balanced and an all around better car.

The all represent the pinnacle of car muscle. They are all amazing machines, pick your poison.
