LT1 - can u get 600whp out of one w/o forced induction?

Want to build a fun car for late night fun and time attack track days. Specifically, HP potential in a 2017 or newer 1LE
* CAI
* Cam
* headers
* exhaust
* e85
* manifold
* ported throttle body

Just curious what a reasonable HP ceiling is before getting exotic and wishing you got a ZL1 1LE instead. I see a lot of 500-515whp projects. Can you get 600whp?

No nitrous, Turbo, or super charger. No alky either.

And does anyone have their favorite cammed LT1? I want a chop chop that draws attention and crowds in parking lots.

Thanks. First time ever considering American. Want to lay down some American Attitude Loud & Proud.

Yes you can make over 600whp NA. Do some research you’ll find a few builds on here.

Blackbeast’s 2016 sure sounded good and this was with GM’s hot cam.

Mine is a little more exotic than your list but it can be done NA. This was a 5th gear pull on 93. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...weoCWZHTuIgg9K

You can do 600whp naturally aspirated, just get ready to sacrifice drivability and valvetrain longevity. The more cubic inches and the less aggressive the lift on the cam is, the better it will drive, tuning goes a long way as well.

Op you're going to have to add ported heads on your list if you want to make it to 600. If you leave those out you're losing 25 to 30hp depending on the head.

Yeah she's pretty nasty. I'm fixing to take her back down there and have a high ram put on along with some more fuel upgrades.

Awesome feedback guys! Thank you so much for the links, your examples, and reminder about ported heads. So frustrated at used ZLE prices, I’m excited to build up a 1LE & say F the used car market! Coming from a high strung 700hp rice box, I think a built 1LE will be a a comfortable street/track toy. Got a good tuner here in the 405.

Regarding brand name aftermarket companies, is Pray For Performance at the top? I see this company mentioned a lot. If one was trying to pick the proven best quality of parts, what would that look like....ported high ram intake manifold, cam, etc...

Yea he's pretty good but getting parts and work done from him is a pain because he's basically a one man show. Gpi is another good option that specializes in Na cars and has great customer service. If you have a tuner picked out already I'd just purchase everything from GPi. On your manifold choice you can get to 600 without a high ram if you're not wanting to cut a hole in the hood. Call Gpi and tell them your goal and they will set you up.

On heads choices there are a few more than when I did my set up. Ported heads work fine but you can run the chance of getting casting and they end up leaking and hydro locking your motor. Mast Motosports has a beautiful set of heads and if they were available when I did mine I would've bought theirs instead of porting mine. Cid,Texas speed, and Katech also have aftermarket sets now that also look good.

I feel like 600 NA whp will require a big cam that sacrifices driveability. Keep in mind you will either have to run a phase limiter or disable variable valve timing completely with any cam swap.

LT2 manifold, ZR1 TB, a sub-.600 lift cam, E85, ported heads, and LT headers should result in a tractable low-to-mid 500s engine that doesn’t eat valve springs (with a good tune).

The SS 1LE is not a numbers car; you are better off starting with FI if you prioritize figures over driving experience.

600whp in a SBE LT1 is doable even with a moderate sized cam(22X/23X .6XX .6XX 113). It will require more compression, ported MSD, good set of heads, headers, rotofab, and E85.

Pray's stock castings completely reworked from the valve seats on up run about 4500.00. Or get a set of aftermarket CID or Mast castings. Either way the power is made in the heads and intake selection...the cam determines the rpm range where you want to make the power. Ideally you select the cam based on the heads/intake.

Prays cam grinds seem to work really well. For example His Stage 3 makes about 50+whp more then TSP's VVT3 and has been reported to offer better driveability. I can not comment about longevity however. I haven't seen any reports of mileage being logged on these builds.

That being said if I was going to do a H/C build for a street car with longevity and mileage being a factor, I would probably look at some Cam Motion cam packages. I really think they offer some of the best lobes and I believe keeping the lift around .600 ensures better valve train reliability...especially with stock rockers.
