Need other people’s opinions

Hi guys, I purchased my 2017 SS A8 last year and started taking it to the track soon after I’m from LA and the closest track we have a is a 1/8 track
Best time was I was able to do fully stock with a muffler delete only on the stock run flats was a 7.89 @90.46.
Fast forward today I have a Rotofab intake, primary and secondary cat delete, and I am tuned on E85. I went to the 1/8 track last week and out of 10 runs the best I was able to do was a 7.75 @90.58 and the DA was better last week (1400DA) than on my best stock run DA (1900DA).
Some side notes that are making me think, I had to put the stock muffler back on due to California laws so that little bit of weight is back on.
I have new wheels the MRR 1LE style wheels, with a 285/35/20 in the front instead of the stock 245/40/20 I know that has to be slowing me down, and Some brand new 305/35/20 Nitto NT555R on the back. I looked into how much weight I added/saved and according to MRR the wheels are 5lbs lighter each so 20lbs of rational mass saved and my 285 front tires are 1.5lbs heavier each than the stock front tires so 3lbs added and the rear 305 tires are the same exact weigh as the stock run flats, so around 16-17lbs of weight savings. Spoke to my tuner he said part of the reason I’m slowing down is the tall ass tire I have in the rear he suggested I get a 26’ wheel and tire and that id shave off atleast a .1 or .2
What do you guys think ? Is it time to go with pray performance?

I went 7.80@92 1.79 60ft on run flat street tires and 12.04@115.83 on that same pass. Personally I'd put a 2300 Maggie Heartbeat on it that Carb Cert if you run our tune and you should be able to go into the 10.80's as I did with mine on a drag pack or even 11.00 flat with 20's. You could even step up to our new 2650 and in the 10's on the 20's which would be about 7.10@101 the 1/8. No motor tear down for cam. Just SC on top and tune and ready to rock.

The 2 tenths gain from 26" tire that some people say is not necessarily true, they did almost nothing for mine. What started to help the car was tuning the TCM, yes it's a pain in the ass with the 2017+, but needed if you want results. My experience with my car was that the TCM tuning was where the 2 tenths actually came from. Another thing to consider is weight, if you went from a heavy tire to a light tire, the weight makes a difference. In my case, the 28.1" tire and the 26" tire weighed the same. One more thing on the short tire, it can make the computer mad when you have normal front tire diameter.

As an example of the tuning importance on a car with a modest level of mods (which I'd also consider for your car), my 2017 SS A8 ran 7.26@96 in the 1/8 with the following mods:
-17x10 wheels on back with 275/40-17 MT ET Street
-stock front wheels had PS4S 245/40-20 tires mounted
-driveshaft loop (adds a little weight actually)
-V-max ported stock throttle body (didn't seem to do squat)
-K&N air filter in stock airbox (didn't seem to do squat)
-ECM tune and TCM tune with E85 in the tank

The bone stock baseline on the runflats was 7.80 in the 1/8th.

What I am saying is, I think that sorting the car out with the mods that you already bought could improve your times.

Thanks for the feedback! I For sure will be doing a trans tune for my next mod I just got a new set of Nitto drag radials and I’m probably going to use them until they’re done then move on to a smaller wheel and better tire
Who tuned your car?

I tuned my own car, but I'm not a professional.

Since you are in California, you might want to contact Ryne Cunningham. I have heard that he's pretty knowledgeable, but have no experience with his work.
