I've been experiencing a loud clicking noise near the rear passenger wheel. Just received a call this morning from the tech stating that the issue is the axle bolts. I am at just below 13K miles. They have to order the parts so I'll be picking up a rental today. I'll post when I pick it up and get more details.

^^Can you please try to provide a part number for the bolt set? Maybe ask your service advisor if its not on the receipt?

Will do. Still waiting to hear back from the service department. Today will make 3 1/2 days that they've had my car, given Saturday was a half-day for their service department. Hoping to hear something soon.

Please ask the torque value too on the half shafts!

37 lb. ft. on the initial install + 45 degrees on the final pass. Bolts must be replaced anytime they are removed.

I finally have my car back after almost a month and it now has a vibration/shudder at part throttle in 8th on the highway. If you give it enough gas to downshift no vibration, and the steering wheel is slightly off center. They did the transmission line recall as well, which is what took so long waiting on the parts. So I guess it will be going back in this week.

How exactly did you check yours to confirm they were OK? I'm assuming you used a torque wrench set to some value, attempted to tighten, and saw no movement of the bolt, but just wanted to be sure.

I'm wondering if this is cheap insurance to just buy the new parts and perform this fix to avoid catastrophic failure and unexpected down time.

So will the dealer install longer bolts under warranty only if the current set is failing? Can it be done as preventative maintenance?

There is also the possibility that Billy Bob factory worker was having a bad day and just didn't do his job.

It looks like they changed the design though. So they must have investigated this far enough to determine a weakness in the production design.

I am seriously considering just buying the improved hardware and performing the fix myself.

Does this issue apply to both the hub AND axle side, or just the axle side?

Glad I ran across this. My car was going to the dealer for the transmission line recall so I called and he's now going to do the TSB as well.

They should really make this a recall....

Yes, that is correct...

Plus, most people who have noticed this issue can actually see the bolts backing out...so you could even do a quick visual inspection first. The bolts have to back out a decent amount before they could fall out.

Could you confirm with your dealer if both the hub AND axle side require the new bolts, or just the axle side?

I read the TSB and it's not 100% clear to me, although I think it's only referencing the axle side.
