Plugs.. Might switch back

Curious if you guys are running Brisk Silver tips or NGK Titanium plugs. Also, did you go 1 step or 2 steps colder?

My original shop did the NGK 1 step colder , but my last tuner switched them to the Brisk 2 steps colder.

How much boost are you running? I’m at 10lbs on stock pulleys and still in stock heat range on NGK plugs.

I would run heat range 7 or maybe even 8's considering the power you are running. Considering the power you are working with here, I'd be more inclined to say you need heat range 8's.

I run NGK Ruthenium HR7 plugs, but I'm making somewhere in the high 5's to low 600's as far as power goes.

Rule of thumb is 100 - 150 HP is the power window per each step in heat range until the next step up is needed.

Well look at that. I was RIGHT ON the money.

Equates to NGK heat range 8 plugs.

I noticed the Brisks are non projected tips, are you intent on running that brand?

No, not married to Brisk. Just recommend by last tuner. Unfortunately I have no idea what gap to run either as I didnt install either set.

I'm running and satisfied with Brisk RR14S. Running around 15psi, gapped to 0.029" (from the stock 30-31 ish)

That sounds about right. IneedAZ, forced induction applications, especially once you get into the higher boost ranges like yours need a narrower gap to overcome the cylinde pressures being created, so as long as you get one that is gapped in the .027-.031 range you'll be safe.

And don't try to gap if you don't have the special tool for it on these platinum/ iridium/ ruthenium plugs or else you will scrape away their special coatings and make them no better than a copper plug.

As for plugs, I've personally never ran a Brisk so I don't have a leg to stand when it comes to my experiences with them, but have nothing but stellar experiences with NGK. I was going to recommend you NGK Ruthenium's but they don't offer anything in the heat range you need in the spec our plugs come in, I run a LTR7BHX plug, I like them because they offer better knock resilience than their iridium counterparts and they have the projected square tips (PSPE) but 7's are the hottest ours offer. It's a toss up with what you want to do, but run an 8 in NGK (or a 12 in Brisk) and you should be good to go.

Jannetti has said he runs as much as .040 as far out as 14-pounds on well-tuned set-ups. While I'm not making the smoke as much as many of you guys, I'm around 15-16-psi regularly, and run a tiny bit more than that with no issues. Again - not quite the same power, but around the same boost.

0.030 is stock LT4 gap size, not sure why you'd go out to 0.040". That size (0.040") is the LT-1 stock gap size, a NA motor.

I don't see the need for a 8 heat range on a stock compression LT4 even @ 15psi. A 7 gapped around .030 should be fine.

Appreciate all the feedback. I will pull one out and see how it looks and if i want to switch back to the NGK. I am a little concerned with the 2 steps colder fouling easier or at least more carbon build up. I will be curious to see how they look.

He posted that, essentially, one should go as big a gap as the ignition system can support, and that our system can support the above. I say essentially because it's not a direct quote, but searching can yield the exact post, because that's how I found it.

The bigger the flame, the better, and the better drivability, from what I've seen. I can attest to this experience, too.
