They also neutered the exhaust in the manual Zs. The auto transmission exhaust sounds much better than the manual. They claim it was because of drive by sound regulation. GM uses the exhaust valves in the dual mode exhaust to pass the regulation and we can pull the fuse if we want. On the manual Zs now you have to factor in the price for an aftermarket exhaust day one, because the stock is weak as Koolaid.

I was surprised when I first heard about this. Sucks for those, like me, who prefer a manual transmission. Perhaps there will be an aftermarket fix at some point. As with my other Zs, I'd probably still end up with an aftermarket exhaust like I have had on them all anyway. And the Nismo exhaust sounded pretty good, but its going to be expensive.

I was all in on the new Z last fall, but the more I find out about it, coupled with the price being higher than expected, I'm not has high on it as I once was. It will be interesting to see how the car does in upcoming comparison tests with other cars. I'm sure MT and CD are already working on some.

I spoke with my local dealer about when the car will actually hit the market and he says they have heard late Fall at the earliest, but they don't have anything definitive. Nissan said Spring, now Summer. Who knows.

Thanks for the link. I was expecting to see a comparison of the two cars soon. Unfortunately, as a fan of the Z, the comparison turned out basically as I expected. The new Z really isn't all new and the (Z)Supra, being a BMW, is a better performance car, although more expensive. I guess I'll have to wait for the Nismo Z.

Here’s a link by hagerty/camissa comparing the new Z and Supra. Spoiler alert: they aren’t even in the same league…

Z vs camaro ss 1le. Supra is also on the list. None of these cars can come close to camaro performance. I want to see a drag race between the upcoming supra manual vs camaro ss manual. From the looks of it GM might have improved the aero on the refresh camaro ss 1les. It put down almost same time as the version with wider cup 2s. I know different day comparison but still interesting.

I don't have any loyalties to any brands. The reason I bought the 1SS 1LE is that there's nothing out there that can touch it for the money. Also having a big honking V8 with a manual was a requirement.

Mustang Mach 1 - way overpriced
Challenger - overweight, overpriced, and over-aged.
Supra - overpriced
Nissan Z, if they had started the car with proper bits like LSD and brakes at it's base price, MAYBE. But once those packages and pricing came out, it was DOA for me.

My sentiments exactly.

I saw this video earlier as well. I really loved that Throttle House video. Very good stuff, though I'm disappointed they didn't do a drag race (maybe that's coming in the near future). I really like their videos in general, esp. the ones with sports cars or expensive luxury vehicles.

And that SS 1LE destroyed the new Z. The Supra also destroys the new Z. I'd be embarrassed if I was Nissan, showcasing a new Z that's just a refreshed 370Z with an updated powertrain, refreshed interior, and has sloppy handling and numb steering and weak tires.

I like the side profile and rear of the Z, though the front graphics leaves something to be desired. Overall, it doesn't look as exotic as a Supra (the Supra's massive rear haunches are awesome looking), and something is a little off about the Z's proportions. I looked at some pictures and think I figured out what is wrong with the proportions: The hood is too high and appears several inches higher than the rear. No other front engine rear drive car that I could think of has that issue in the proportions: C7 Corvette, Dodge Viper, Camaro, Mustang, BMW M4, Supra, Challenger, etc.

Let’s not also forget that the camaro is a 4 seater even though the back seats are cramped ( i do carry my 4 year old no problem on a booster seat).

Throttle House went so far as to say that the new Z isn't really a track car.
That's surprising.
