C7 Carbon ZLE High Wing Review - Step inside

I wanted to make some time to give an honest review of the C7 carbon wing that I received. First, This is not an OEM ZLE wing so with that in mind, it is not a carbon copy of that wing. If you cannot live with differences in the wing, this wing is not for you. If you understand that OEM wings are going to be different in fitting, shape, and such, read on.

My ZLE wing journey began back in June when I got my ZL1. I had just recently traded my ZLE for a ZL1 (no comments about this becuase apparently I could have kept it and change the suspension oh well ). So I decided to try the EOS wing. Received within 2 wks and was ready to install. Removed OEM ZL1 wing. EOS wing was overall ok. I never really liked the idea of gluing the winglets. My wing had clearance issues with the center post. There was a gap about 1/2 inch to the trunk (apparently this is common in some early ZLE). needless to say, I returned. Fast forward to 6 Aug 2021, I decided to give C7 a call to place my order. They said at that time, it was going to be 12 wks with 3 wks potential delays. Lies, all in all it took 22 wks.

Customer service was hit or miss. They would reply to most of my emails. I was patient until it was like 17 and 18 wks. Then I was getting angry. I thought about cancelling the order but I was be at square one so I kept calm. Overall, I was satisfied. I decided to drive down to their location and pick up the wing. So be prepared to wait longer than what they tell customers upon ordering.

Ok Review time. The packaging was extremely well. I think this could travel across the country and should have no issue. only complain would be that for this item, they should have some foam in the box to keep the wing in place. below some pics of packing.

The wing itself is decent I suppose. I mean it is not 5K like OEM and not $500 like OES so quality is ok. I actually expected better finish from a company like C7 Carbon. I suppose I am OCD and picky. The holes for the stanchions seems solid and I wasnt too worried about the bottom part of it. The paint finish is so so. I mean the color and the clear seem solid but it has a lot of swirls. I am going to assume this is from wet sanding the wing. I was going to detail it anyway so I wasnt too worried but buyers beware. See pics below for more details.

To my relief, there was no major damage of the clear or the actual wing. No major deep scratches or anything like that. Only issue I found that was kind of a let down is the marking in the picture below. It seems like it was Silver Sharpie or something similar. This actually came right off during the buffing and polishing.

Then, I inspected the posts. For those of you wondering the type of double sided or actually one sided tape, this is what C7 Carbon uses. Seems solid and performally I think it will stop most water from going into the trunk/mounting holes as long as there are no gaps between the tape and the trunk surface.

I have some major issues with water spots all over the car. So I took this time to do a full detail with Clay bar, rubbing compound, and polish compound. I also used Wheel cleaner with Acid to help remove the spots. Put sealant, then wax. Seems to have worked. Usually, the spots would be gone until after I washed the car next time. I did it yesterday and the spots are not back. Gotta do the rest of the car now.

I prep the turnk

I know some had mentioned they used silicone to cover the holes and prevent water going into the trunk. Well, I was wingless for about 6 months so I bought those black rubber plugs that came in a variety pack. There was a size for every hole in there. They worked well. No water ever enter the trunk was no wing on and during car washes or rain. So I decided to keep them in place and simply make holes to run the bolts and screws to create a tight seal. You do not need to run the long bolts at this step but I did and it worked out well for me. The only that I was not able to do was the center post in the rear. It was too small. I covered that hole with one-sided tape and run the bolt after the wing was already in place.

The outer posts get attached to the spoiler ahead of time using 2x shorter bolts with washers.

Now the trunk is ready and wing is ready to make a match.

Ok. So this was the most anticipated part. I wanted to make sure the wing had no gaps at the trunk and the posts. I started working with the long bolts and the short bolts with the nut and side to side until the wing started to sit on the car flush. Then I started working on the long bolt for the center post. This bolt was a pain in the back.. I had to remove the trunk latch for additional clearance. Once in, It was still hard to tighten. Be careful not to drop your bit in the trunk. Asked me how I know. Overall, I am extremely happy with the fit of the wing against the trunk. No major gaps and the one-sided tape seems to make a solid seal. I washed the car yesterday and had no water go into the trunk. Additionally, I went out for a ride to check for noises and the wing flapping around. No issues. The visibility is somewhat better than OEM. I think this is higher inclination so you can see better under vs the more flat OEM wing.

Ok, so overall I am happy with it. Yes the mold still off compared to OEM and the winglets angle is pointed down. I dont mind because it is not an OEM wing and I personally think the wing looks good. If you mind the wingless slope, dont buy it. Seems like they havent worked that issue yet. Seems like a simple solution to make the mold make those winglets less slopy. The bolts and screws fit on the trunk holes without modifications so I am happy there. This is a one piece wing with the winglets so no worry they will fly off. There was no rattling inside the wing. I probably will drive and retighten the bolts. The design still makes the bolts meet the trunk slighty off at a angle like 15 degree, not flat. I think this is so minimal that shouldnt present a problem. IF anyone wants pics of that, I can take some. I still have the trunk lid inside out apart.

Enjoy. LEt me know if you have any questions. Next, Front bumper.

Nice write up. I feel your pain on the wait. I ordered my Anderson 1le wing before I even bought the car (like the day I flew out to TX to get it I put the order in). I was told 6-8 weeks. At weel 10 I called and was told 12-16 weeks. By week 20 I was PISSED and called to cancel my order. Thankfully the person who answered was super helpful and funny enough, he was the inspection person before parts went out and he was actually going over my spoiler. He told me cause of covid/shipping/ect it was now just him for the inspection part and only got about 20 a day done. after thinking he may have been blowing smoke up my ass, I got a shipping notification that few hrs later as well as the shipping company called to set up a delivery date.
