I gave up street bikes about 10 years ago due to too many sketchy near misses. I do miss getting out there and riding, but do get ridiculous with UTV's and dirtbikes still. I had sportbikes for over 20 years, and had my share of sliding and being sad, but riding these days is just something else. I salute those of you that still will.

Jay, I'm your age and live not far from you. I have been on and off motors since I was 12 years old. Last one was a '14 Ultra Limted that got totaled by a deer last fall. When we got the Camaro in '17, we still rode the Ultra, just not as much since we were often doing Camaro stuff on the weekends. It eventually dwindled to where I was riding it myself, usually only to work or to take my daughter for a ride (she loves it.), but she's grown up in college and rides were few and far between. When the deer took it out, I decided now was the time to do my bucket list thing and get a classic Vette. I was a little surprised at how easy I gave up the bike, but I'm having fun tinkering with the money pit, I mean Vette, and the Camaro is second fiddle. LOL

Just to keep this string of beautiful Yamahas going...
Here is my 2016 XSR900 The coloring is not a filter, this was during last year's wildfire season when the sky turned red/orange for a few days and was raining ash. I figured if the end days had arrived I was going for ride! |

C8's are some pretty crazy expensive cars. I "jokingly" says to her. Well if you are not truly interested in going on the bike anymore, maybe I should sell the bike and Camaro and get the Vette. Her response was... Go for it if that is what you want. Man, I'm glad you are still here to type that message after totaling an Ultra hitting a deer. That could have ended way worse. I just about took out a Crane (Bird) yesterday. Had I stuck out my leg, I could have kicked it. Last edited by jamala00; 05-17-2021 at 03:26 PM. |

I have 4 bikes...2019 Hayabusa, 2018 H2-SX, 2006 M109R2, 2001 Ducati Monster 750. I ride every day as long as it isn't raining or snowing or ice on the ground or any other unfavorable weather conditions. And provided I have the time. I typically ride to and from the gym as it saves me from putting unnecessary miles on my cars and I'd rather get on my bike than get in a car all sweaty. I enjoy riding. It's a great feeling. And I'll never give it up.
As far as all the comments about the dangers of riding, I personally feel that if you keep safe distances, stay completely alert and attentive, try to predict what traffic will do, and always be ready for anything, then your only danger will be yourself. Lots of these people out riding are either super cocky, attention seeking (look at me attitude), they ride wreckless and obnoxious, feel entitled, and act like they own the road. But they'll blame everyone and everything else when they take a spill. If you ride respectfully and cautiously and respect others on the road and react appropriately then you'll have no issues at all. I'd say the vast majority of incidents that occur are or were completely preventable. And some of these riders ain't too smart. |

At 73, it's hysterical when I take off my helmet and someone looks at me and says something like, "What are you doing riding that thing"?

55 years young here. Been riding about 35 of those years on 25 different bikes. Current weapon of choice is a 2018 Speed Triple R. I ride mostly to work but the road is always curving which is key. The Camaro sadly feels sluggish after riding the Speedy
