I live this dilemma in a way. Not with a 6th Gen (SS 1LE or ZL1 M6 is on my purchase list), but with my 4th Gen and my 1963 Corvette Grand Sport.
I have owned my 4th gen since it was practically new (3250 kms on it at time of purchase, August 2000). As time goes on, I truly appreciate how reliable and fun a new Camaro can be - comfortable, amazing performance (speaking more to the 6th gen, though the 4th gen performance was impressive in its day). Classics are beautiful, but I won't own another one that isn't a restomod - properly done with all the bugs worked out - LS powertrain, modern suspension and tires. In this config, they are a joy to drive, but in old school form, they are loud, hot, ride terribly, and you can't wait to get out after 30 mins.

Yenko, under the premise I would make a bunch of mods to it

Real or nicely done tribute all day! I get the daily aspect but the wow factor. My SS is pretty nice.... not a ZL1 but procharged with alot done.....
Doesn’t come close to driving my 71 chevelle on a nice sunny day. Also considering between zl1 and yenko expecting where talking garage queens not dailies..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like the premise of what the OP is asking.
I happen to think a ZL1 or a real 1st gen Yenko are not made for daily driving.... the ZL1 has much better manners, but still on most roads the extra performance is wasted. I was literally shopping for a performance 1st gen when I fell in love with the FIFTY.... it changed my mindset! As a HUGE fan of ALL the 1st gen Camaros, I think I would still choose the ZL1 if I had to choose between the two examples. That said, if I had the garage space, I would rather have, for sure have a 69 SS Vert (I would make it a resto-mod in my spare time) to compliment my completely amazing gen6. The 1st and 6th gen cars are performance art.... |

I would go with the ZL1. i know there are limited quantity right now. But if something happened to it the odds of getting parts or a replacement is better than an original Yenko. Plus, if I had a original Yenko and someone hit or destroyed it, I couldn't even imagine what would happen to them.

If it’s coming out of my wallet, I’m going ZL1 all day everyday because it can be daily driven in comfort with the AC on and still knock down decent mpg. Now if free to pick one, I’m going Yenko and gonna sell it, buy a ZL1 and invest the extra. I love 69’s, owned 3 in the past and may own another someday preferably with an LT4, M6 and AC.

Yenko, because it's much easier to add a great aftermarket audio system.

I saw a Gen 6 Yenko at my local dealer. That's what I would go for.

Upside of the old car is sheer comfort. You can even hang your elbow out the window. No rear view cameras required. AND the greatest asset is that you can easily repair anything on it and replace parts at will.
That said, you can't just go to a dealer and buy parts any more. Technologically speaking the new Camaro has it's benefits and stops and turns much better than the old. BUT, it has to have a blower to compete.
