npp exhaust - the real story
Thinking about getting the npp exhaust. what is the real story? Can I just leave it alone without pushing any switches? Just leave it in one mode...I hate to mess with presets. I hear some great stuff about it, but then I hear sometimes there are "issues" with it. I see you tube videos and it looks good but i never want to have to pull any fuses or stuff like that...I like the quad tip looks though...Can you just have a stock exhaust and buy quad tips to fit, or what? I know that sounds wimpy on a camaro forum but presently i have a camaro that I have owned for four years with no problems...don't want to have any with a new vehicle....

You can't just add quad tips to a non-NPP Camaro and the rear diffuser is different.. it would likely cost you more for a new rear diffuser and quad tips then it would to be just to get NPP from the factory. NPP is my favorite option on my Camaro, especially if you are getting the V8... I wouldn't even consider a V8 without it... Looks great, sounds great...

There are no "issues" I know of apart from the valve rattle that affects a couple of NPP cars, the service bulletin for that is 16-NA-173. You can buy quad tip aftermarket exhausts for a standard car, be it Corsa, Borla, MBRP or AWE to name a few, but then you'll either have to replace the rear valance to have the quad-tip cutout, or you enlarge the cutouts, which will probably not look OEM, no offense intended. If you are sure you don't want to use the drive mode-specific exhaust setting or the ability to customize the exhaust, you'll probably be better off with an aftermarket exhaust, those are typically louder anyway. I for one love NPP, it's loud enough, and the rare few times I want more noise inside the car, I just drop down the rear seat.

NPP is a good option to have on a Camaro!

Neat option, not worth $995 or whatever the cost is.

Its amazing how we can all differ so much. The $995.00 I spent for NPP is the best option money I spent. The quad tips look great and they are functional. I dislike fake features. You will spend equal or more for any decent aftermarket solution. I like the sounds I get and I have had many complements on it. Most do not believe its a factory exhaust.
You have many options to use it. You can just drive the car and let the exhaust valves open and close according to the driving mode selected. Or you can make a one time selection through the main menu to lock the exhaust in one setting. Like 2SS Capt - I too like the exhaust locked in the Track setting (its the loudest during acceleration but quiet for highway cruising). I prefer the Sport setting for the steering and throttle feel.

Mine stays locked in Track mode. Well worth the cost if it doesn't come standard on your trim level.

IMHO, you're trying to chase a deal here. You've had a few different posts up over the last week about features and getting an offer on a 'rare' car. Are you buying on price or are you buying because you want something specific? If the former, I [unfortunately] believe you're going to end up disappointed. You're going to end up with a feature you don't like or miss out on something you really wanted because you're rushing.
If it's the latter, then take your time and understand these things before making a decision. And open up your distance to the entire country - if you GENUINELY want a specific car, you'll travel to get it and it will 100% be worth it. I drove a little over two hours to get mine and brought it home on a trailer. Knowing what I know now, I would drive pretty much about 1/3 of the way across the country doing the exact same thing. Any further, and I would likely do a fly and drive to get it home. |

If you dont have npp and want the quad tips youll have to get an axle back with quad tips and replace the diffuser from the bumper with a quad diffuser. Ive heard of people cutting space in the oem dual diffuser for the other tips. Just like the dual exhaust the quad will be wide open all the time since there is no npp. Its all about how much you want to spend and how much work you want to do.

Is it really that hard to believe that people's opinions differ? LOL. Well then I'll give you mine :-). I think it's a fine option, but in regards to the price, I had it on my last car and the quiet was too quiet oh, and the loud was louder, but it wasn't my favorite tone. So I ended up going to an aftermarket exhaust deleting the NPP, and having the tone I really liked all the time. So, given the choice that's how I would have got the car stock. On the SS I bought last year, I got it without NPP, and installed the exhaust of my choice, and for me that's perfect. As for the look, I'm 50/50. Sometimes I like the quad tips, then sometimes they look a little gaudy. I'm also kind of old school, and quad tips used to be some cheesy thing that the kids did. Right now I got pretty large 4 1/2 or 5 in tips, and that's pretty awesome looking in my opinion as well.

Worth every penny...I have my exhaust settings to what I like and I've left it alone. Early 16-18 had issues with right rear rattle. None with my 2019.

NPP, track mode all day!!! The car just sounds nasty this way! I also have many folks that do not believe it is a factory exhaust system. It just sounds incredible!!!!

Only issue with NPP is the rattle, which I think there is a fix. If you're worried about that, get a Camaro without it. You won't have quad tips and the sound will be underwhelming in comparison. Mine didn't have NPP, so got a Borla-S type, dual tips, same rear diffuser. $1K installed. Sounds incredible. No switches, settings.
