Underbody Air Deflector Tire Dam Kit

I have a question: in the high performance owner's manual supplement, on page 17, it says:

The underbody air deflector tire dam kit provided with the ZL1 vehicles reduces the amount of aerodynamic lift on the front axle for better handling. The original tire dams must be reinstalled after the track event. For installation, see the instructions provided with the kit.

Does this mean that the car should have come with a separate kit? Ours only has the ones originally installed on the car, but this quote makes it sound like a special kit should have come with the car to allow you to switch them out.

I am trying to figure out I need to go back to the dealer to get the missing kit, so I would appreciate any feedback from other ZL1 owners

Thanks in advance for any information!

Mine came uninstalled and in the trunk. They said they would install it if I wanted. It came in two separate packages. One longer spoiler for the middle and the side pieces in a separate bag with fasteners.

The deflectors should have been installed during PDI..... you need to remove the large front ones for track days, and replace them afterwards.......

Here is another link about it.....

The third post by Inspector 17 has a pic and a great explanation.....

Thanks for the info!

I looked under the car and it does appear that we have everything we are supposed to have - as you said, apparently the correct pieces were installed during PDI.

We are going back today to talk to the dealer about some issues and I just wanted to make sure we didn't need to add this to our list.

Thanks!

I'm confused, if the deflector(s) 'reduces the amount of aerodynamic lift on the front axle for better handling' why would you take them off for a track event? Isn't that where you would want them the most (assuming road course as track)

You're not actually removing the deflectors (those channels) you're removing the blocking piece in front of them that doesn't allow air to channel through them as you're just driving along.

The curved channel bits are what move air from under the car to reduce lift. The straight edge pieces on each side are what come off for track.

Ok, that makes sense, the 'deflectors' probably help with fuel economy and removing them makes the aero work.

I would probably just leave them in the trunk if thats the case.

Not sure but on the SS those are removed when u install the big break kit when running the larger brake deflectors that hang about 3 inches from pavement I took those air dams off and left the larger brake deflectors on.

Wonder why we didn't get the larger ones in trunk for track days..
