Highly optioned LT1 vs SS or 1LE

This morning I was checking out the inventory online of one of my local Chevy dealers and noticed that they had a 2022 LT1 in transit with an MSRP of $45,555. I went there to look at the window sticker for a 2022 ZL1 they have in transit.

The LT1 has options that include: Recaro seats, NPP, rear blade spoiler, suede steering wheel and shift knob, 10 speed auto, sunroof and several other options including a ground effects kit. After looking at it I thought why spend this much on a LT1 when you could purchase a 2SS or a 1LE for the virtually the same money? The MSRP of my 2022 1SS 1LE was only $500 more than this LT1.

My guess is someone ordered this car with the options they wanted, but it seems to me that a 2SS or 1SS 1LE would be a better value/bang for the buck and offer better resale value. I'm not saying that a 1LT is not worth the price. It's a great value for those who don't want to spend SS or 1LE money on a V8 Camaro. But not so much if it has $10,360 worth of options. Curious to see what others think.

I agree, only way to do the LT1 IMO is to keep the MSRP under $40k. At almost $45k you might as well pick up a no option 2SS.

One thing to mention though is that the LT1s do lease out much cheaper than a SS does. If you're leasing, an optioned LT1 even at that level might be cheaper than a base 1SS to lease. The dealership I work for does about 85% of our new car sales as leases, so when we order something for inventory we tend order what leases well, which is why most of the Camaros we get are LT1s.

I went with an LT1 with NPP and Bose package for 36.6 OTD. A 1SS near me (could only find 1SS/1LE) was 45+ and 2ss were similar. If you start approaching 1SS pricing, you may as well go to SS - Caveat if you're in an area where you need winter / all-season tires - budget in another few thousand for that if you go xSS.

I'm happy with my purchase, you'll be happy whichever way you go, too.

For the most part I agree… but, as I said in another post somewhere, there were things I didn’t want or need (in my case, less is more), so I went LT1. IE Recaro’s, hood wrap, chin spoiler, alcantara, elsd, track mode, heads up display, magnetic ride. I had all of these options before ( except elsd) and didn’t really use or like them from a practical standpoint… other than magnetic ride, which I do miss when I hit a set of railroad tracks.

Your 100% right on the 1LE though, it’s a bargain for what you get as compared to any loaded up LT1. But, different strokes for different folks…

I agree. The LT1 is a great option if you can keep the MSRP below$40k.

That's a good point about leasing. If lease rates are less for the LT1 is might make going that route less costly if you are only planning to lease. Also interesting that your dealership's new care sales is 85% leases. I wouldn't have thought it would be so high.

I would say that your LT1, as optioned, is a great value. I wish the Bose was an option on the 1SS 1LE. That would have been about the only option I would have wanted over the basic 1SS 1LE, except for maybe cross traffic alert.

I do wish I had cross traffic and blindspot stuff, but I got used to it. I have never had it, afterall.

LT1 no options here, $30K OTD the week before the pandemic shut down in 2020. This is the only way I would have purchased it, no options and much cheaper. My 1st choice was a 1LE, which at the time, was $40K. That's an extra $200 per month on a finance. My LT1 does not see a road course, but I do have 1LE front brakes envy.
A loaded LT1 is a waste of money for the buyer and a huge cash grab for the dealer.

I love my LT1 but I agree, for that kind of money and with all those extras just get the SS. It's either someone ordered the car they wanted, or some fleet manager just started ticking off boxes.

With almost all new cars orders now being customer orders, I'd bet this build is a custom order. This is a small town dealer. I don't think the dealer would order something like this for its inventory.

I would say get an SS too but you get what makes you happy and one that you will enjoy driving. The one reason I bought a ZL1 was when I was looking for a 1SS 1LE or 2SS 1LE back in 2019 the ZL1 was not much more expensive since I found a very low mileage used one that was 2 years old at the time. Good luck with your decision!

I got quite a few options on my LT1.

Didn't want all the 2SS/ZL1 "included options" and then have to add the options I wanted. If I could of got an LT1 w/ LT4 in it or a choice of options in the ZL1, I might of went that route.

I agree with this. My LT1 for example only had the 10 speed auto, exhaust, spoiler and different color wheels options. Got the car with a final price of well below that 40k mark and even if I get wider rear wheels or a new set of four if I cant find rear rims to match I will still be decently below it as well. A 1SS with options I wanted is 41k so for me if the LT1 was 38-39k I would have probably tried to order or have the dealer look for a 1SS instead. This was back in Feb 2020 though so market has obviously changed since then and probably won't get deals on new cars since you are doing good if you are getting it at MSRP.
