The most attractive aspect of using track mode on the street IMO is the near linear throttle mapping, which allows for fewer surprises to a sensitive passenger

Is this correct? I didn't know this.

Two things...
1) Are there amounts of "open" for the valves? They only open a certain amount in Sport but then open full in Track?

2) In Track mode, they close on the freeway? Is this governed by speed or rpm or what? How does it work?

Is there a resource that explains this somewhere?

My understanding is that this is why the "fuse pull" is written about so much. It's the only way to fully disable the closing of the valves under certain circumstances like "cruising".

I was about to say just that. Feels a lot more familiar if you are used to a throttle by cable TB.

I've played with all the settings when I had my SS 1LE. Throttle response in track mode was dead below 2/3 throttle. Most of the responses I've seen have agreed with this. Sport setting for throttle response is more fun on the street.

So track mode is OK even in break in period? As long as they follow all the other guidelines in the manual?

Perfectly fine. The manual provides explicit guidance on things to do and not do during break-in, and use of any specific driving mode is nowhere in their guidance.

No track USE (literally, driving hard on the track) should be done during break-in.

I far prefer track mode for highway or freeway, the added steering weight feels really good when cruising at higher speeds in more or less straight roads. Prefer the sound too, but I have engine sound set to track permanently anyway, despite whatever overall mode I'm in.

As far as throttle feel, Sport mode is nice around town because its quite touchy in my car which I like.

I'm all about staying locked in that "Snow/Ice" mode, baby. Just really letting these 1400 ponies scream down the highway

Does track mode automatically downshift and holds gears when braking? I could’ve sworn my car did that one day. I braked real hard and could hear my car downshift like 2 times and held the gear. I guess it thinks I’m actually on a track and are getting ready to hit a sharp turn and gonna need that lower gearing to hit the straight away after turning. I know in sports mode if you blip the throttle real hard it’ll downshift to the lowest possible gear so you can punch it and get instant torque.

That's your car going into competitive mode.
