Speedometer question

Anyone replace their 200 mph/kph speedometer with the 330 kph/mph face that the Europeans get? I was just wondering if it's possible to just replace the faceplate on the gauge or if you have to replace the whole gauge or gauge cluster.

Not sure, but why would you want to do that? You would never know if you were doing the speed limit or not.

Anything is possible if you have the $$. But, in the US why would you want that? I don't know if that gauge can be changed to read in mph. I believe it is only capable of reading km/h.

It makes the car faster because now it has a 330 top speed! haha!

The Canadian ones can for sure. We get the 330 ones and the units can be changed in the options menu.

You might be able to grab a Canadian one and program it to work properly. The question, as the others mentioned, is why? It's not like the Camaro is capable of 300+ mph. It's more of a convenience feature for Canadian cars in case they travel to the US.

Realistically in the US, I would think you can only use 1/3 of the Canadian speedo reasonably and the last 1/3 of the Canadian speedo will be useless.

Since you can switch it between mph and kph the needle recalibrates to the chosen measurement automatically. All it does is move the needle. Whichever you select it will be correct. It’s just that, theoretically, 160 mph is 257 kph. On the USA spec speedometer if you have kph selected you will bury the needle at 200 kph and not show your speed. It can in mph but not kph.

I actually prefer metric measurements. The more you use them the easier it is to get used to them.

It does mean you have to do some head math, though. I don't really want to look at an imperial sign and compare it to my metric displays, and vice versa.

And here is another thing: you have a 2SS, so you have the HUD. Personally I rarely look at my actual speedo and just use the HUD. I was pretty used to my RX-8's and C7's digital speedo.

Yeah, but if you just replace the face like you asked the question, the needle calibration will be so far off whether it's mph or kph neither will mean anything.

Right, I should have clarified that I would imagine you have to replace the entire cluster or at least somehow reprogram the speedometer if that's possible. The 200 speedo is calibrated differently from 330 speedo, obviously. Just swapping the faces wouldn't work.

Yeah you're right now that I really look at them. I was thinking it wouldn't matter because when you switch between mph and kph the needle jumps, it doesn't matter where the numbers are. But the increments are physically different in the two gauges to fit 330 in the same space as 200. So the numbers are far more condensed which would throw off both readings.

Oh well. I'd have only done it if it was cheap and easy. I'm not going to spend money for a whole new instrument cluster then even more to have it programed to my car.

Yes you are right about that.
