Can you still realistically order a 2024?
Greetings,
I've decided I'd like to buy a 2024, and when I ask dealers about ordering I get yes, no, and maybe. I've ordered a couple Corvettes in the past, so I'm familiar with the allocation system and constraints. I also know that some dealers will be happy to take your order, when in fact they may not have any realistic expectation of receiving an allocation for the car. I think I read that the 2024 production will stop in Jan 2024. I've also read that production is 6+ months behind. If those are both true, then it would seem impossible to get a car built from a custom order placed today. If a dealer has an allocation, and places an order, will they be guaranteed to get it, or will it just get cancelled at the scheduled end of production if the car hasn't been produced? After all that, if there's hope of ordering, are there national dealerships that have more allocations, and will ship the car to you? I remember on the Corvette list that you'd see dealers post unclaimed allocations for immediate order. Does that happen here? What's really frustrating is that there's a car "in transit" to a dealership in MS that I'd buy today if they'd only return my calls and emails. All I've gotten from a week of requests is "a manager or specialist will contact you soon". Sadly, soon never comes. Thanks, Rusty (East TN) |

Technically yes, most dealers will still blindly take your order and a deposit down..
Realistically, as you've done your research, no. Not unless you're working with a dealership who actually has an allocation. Or, unless you have some insider connection who will bump you up in line.. Not even mentioning the impending strike, which is a wild card as well. All that being said - reach out to GearheadSS on the forums here, he might be able to help.

Let me tell you a little story about the difference between hypothetically and realistically.
Little Johnny come home from school and tells his dad his teacher gave them a homework assignment to research the difference between hypothetical and realistic. Johnny's dad says, "hmmmm, go up and ask your sister if she would sleep with a man for $1M." Little Johnny comes back down and says, "dad, sissy said she would sleep w a man for $1M" Little Johnny's dad says, " ok, now go up and ask your mother the same question." Little Johnny comes back down and says, "dad, mom said she would too, but I don't get it!" Little Johnny's dad says, "see son, hypothetically we are millionaires. Realistically, we are living with a couple wh***s" This always pops in my head when people ask if it's too late Last edited by Tbone98; 09-12-2023 at 12:51 PM. |

I'm definitely on the wrong end of the supply and demand curve for everything I want these days. If a local dealer wants to place an order with no money down for deposit, there won't be any harm in doing that while I continue to search for the car I want (at a dealer who will return my calls). If it doesn't work out, then there's always the Mustang GT.

If you really want one, I wouldn't wait another day to put the order in.

My dealer told me they have stopped taking orders because they don't know what their allocation is yet and they want to make sure they have enough to cover all the current orders.

We don't exactly have high volume dealerships here in rural east TN. One local dealer told me they could put in an order, but didn't know if or when they'd get an allocation. The manager there said the chances wouldn't likely be better than 50/50 now. Another dealership told me about the same. One said they aren't taking any customer orders, though I'd imagine they'll use any surprise allocation for a dealer stock order. Another wants me to order, and I'm waiting for their reply about the deposit.
At this point, I wouldn't put a deposit unless the dealer actually has a live allocation. I think I read that they get them on Thursday, and have to place the order (within the constraints given) by Saturday. I'll likely seek out the largest volume dealers in the area. Thanks, Rusty |

You can definitely still place an order and maybe even get an allocation. It just depends on what you're trying to order.
Production definitely isn't 6 months behind. If that was the case, they wouldn't even be producing 2024s yet. I've had 5 2024 allocations and 4 of the 5 were sold orders. Most everyone on my list wants a ZL1, ZL1 1LE or 2SS 1LE, all of which are either very limited or not available so anyone wanting a V6 Camaro has a really good shot at getting a car. |

I'm looking for a pretty basic 1SS, but so far I haven't found anyone willing to put me on their list for free. If they have an allocation, and can immediately place the order, I'd be fine with a deposit.
That MS dealership told me the car appeared to be available in their first reply, but they've ghosted me since. Just taunting me I suppose :-) |

Here's my story on obtaining my 2023 2SS 1LE 6sp - I live in NE FL and was on a waitlist for a 2024 CE at a large volume dealer in Central FL. When Chevy announced what the CE consisted of, I was disappointed. Following advice from a post on this forum, I spec'd out a 2023 on Chevy's website and did an inventory search. I contacted dealers from NC, GA, SC, TN and FL that had similar cars to my build. Most of these cars were in transit and / or sold orders. Most dealers did NOT call me back or follow up. For the dealers that I was a able to establish positive contact with, I left my contact info with them in case any deals fell through. Well, one deal did go sour in McMinnville, TN once the car arrived on the lot. The dealer contacted me and I was able to purchase my black 2SS 1LE. Total time from search to purchase was 3 weeks. Your mileage may vary....

Thanks for the comments. It's good to see that I'm not the only one not getting a reply from a dealer. Usually you have to take out a restraining order to get the dealers to STOP contacting you :-)
I've done extensive searches for 2023 and 2024 cars, including hitting a large number of dealers websites in addition to what the Chevy Inventory search shows. There's literally only one car in 500 miles that shows up, and that's the dealer who won't talk to me. I have a few must haves, but I could accept a few options I didn't specifically want. I guess my tastes are too boring for most dealer stock orders. I'll keep looking, and if I don't find what I want, I'll just consider it fate. Rusty |
