The dealer would be informed via a TSB how to determine if your half-shaft belongs to the affected group. I used to do this stuff 30 years ago.
So I thought this is extremely very very very rare for GM (or any other manufacture) to do a "recall" for a non-safety issue?

Is it because they could foresee it being a safety issue?

I remember things like "special warranty coverage extension" for the LB7 duramax injectors and things like that but I have never heard of them voluntarily recalling a defective part for free. Normally it would just be a part of a TSB?

I guess my car isn't affected? Is there a reliable site to check recalls on. I used KBB?

Parts came in last week, scheduled appointment, they said it was a re-call, I
did not receive a letter. No charge, all good!

I've noticed this spring that one of my half shafts appears to be squeaking (at least when I back out of my garage). I'm not even sure what to make of this.
