I've experienced this same issue with my 2012 RS. To get more light I bought PSX26W LED 8000 lumen per pair lights for my fog lights. Great output but occasionally blind oncoming drivers since the beam is not focused. I recently ordered something new I saw on my Asian website. Direct Plug and Play D1S LED to replace my HID bulbs. They are direct 35w plug ins to the factory ballast. I should receive these late January, so i can report back. At the very least, they run cooler so hopefully wont further deteriorate the reflector housing. I've tried different HID bulbs from 4300k to 6500k and I'm disappointed with all of them. Hopefully the D1S LED will satisfy. Cost was $52 for the pair.

The main problem is the bad reflectors of the hid headlights. They get too hot and the reflector softens, and the chrome layer deteriorates over time.

Unfortunately, there is currently no offer for high-quality reflectors for an exchange.

So this is the pic with the D1S LED i bought to direct plug into HID Ballasts. Worked fine. Wont know brightness till I get car out of storage but seems brighter and at the least, they will run cooler.

You have the factory HIDs and you put aftermarket LEDs in them instead?
That HAS to be a downgrade.
I'm genuinely curious if they are indeed better.
I know I put in new HID capsules to replace my 10 year old factory ones and they're markedly brighter than they were.

Please keep us updated on this. A side-by-side vs someone with HIDs would be great.

I'll let you know when I take it out of storage. I always thought the Factory HID Camaro lights sucked, even when new. Maybe it's the 35 watt vs 55 watt they use. All the aftermarket LED's I've used to replace halogen have been awesome. A little trial and error to find the right ones. I prefer fanless, ZES chips. When I first looked for LED's I saw some on U.S. websites for $200+... after research I found the exact same ones from China for $40, I mean really, we all know China manufacturing them, you just have to find the right seller. I'd love to buy U.S. made stuff, but I'm not paying some middle man who is private branding stuff from the red country. I've been using Lumiled ZES fanelss LED's in the Foglights, 4000 lumens each. They're great but not focused so I blind on comming drivers at night, so I replaced them with 2000 lumen each. I can send more pics if you provide an e-mail or IM.
