1000 watt rms
i am going to run a sub with 1000 rms. Do i need to upgrade my battery, etc? i will have a ss/rs so idk if the hids will kill the battery along with the sub. i dont mind the lights dimming and the voltage dropping a little after pounding a couple songs all out.

i would atleast recommend a capacitor to put inline with the amp. i dont have one yet and when i start crankin on the volume the lights do start pulsating, and mine is only a 450rms amp!

Is the sub rated @ 1000 watts RMS? Or is the amplifier that you are using pushing that out continuous? Either way, if you have that type of speaker or amplifier and it is capable of handling or delivering that kind of "true clean power" than by all means, you will definitely need to run a secondary battery w/@ least a 4 ga. power cable and probably some type of capacitor set up. Oh, and by the way, the sub and amp set-up w/ any type of quality should be costing you around $2,000.00 or better. You get what you pay for. Don't forget to use Dynamat!!

what sub is it? and what amp are you planning on going with?
Also capacitor will not stop light dimming but light dimming is not a problem but factory computers start shutting off at 9vdc so if you system drops your battery that low your factory computers will be effected. |

battery, cap, or high output alternator..don't need to fork out all that cash for a system, unless you can afford it, or you've done your homework and know what's reputable..

stock alternator is 130 amp max,
And there is no such thing as just making a w7 a little loud, they are insanely loud, and max a 1000/1 will pull 100 amps of current, personally if it was my system I would run 2 batteries because that amp pulls massive current. |

check the fuses on the amp
That is the key to the trickery used on power ratings. You can find name brand 1800watt amps that have only 2, 20 amp fuses, which means it pulls less them 40amps at peak. --- Now modern cars with all its electro gagets suck down the juice and most stock system are near the max. Id atleast install a cap for when it hits hard. |

watts n ohms means jack, how many amps does it draw is what you need to know. and looking at the fuses will tell you that. As it will use less then it fused for.
