Z/28 Battery Voltage
Need some input from fellow Z owners. After a "Sunday afternoon drive" this past weekend I noticed my battery voltage was up over 15v prior to shutdown. Hmm. Thinking the original bat may be on its way out my Z06 Vette graciously donated it's brand new AGM for experimental purposes. Same result. No faults, codes or difficulties starting even with the 6-year old original battery. My question for the more experienced folks is this normal? Start up it's around 14.8v or so. As a comparison my 2LS V6 car starts at approx 14.6v then drops below 13v after a few minutes. My 1st pic is ign on, engine off. 2nd pic is just after start up. Final pic is after a good spirited therapy run. What have you observed in your vehicles?

funny you ask this is normal on the lat 5the gens, drove the car to the shop, and like you when starting it was at 11.8 volts and as i am driving down to work it goes up to 15.2 volts, think i found one of the problems with starting the car up too, will be adding a video next week on how to improve start up on the car.
P.s. still have the 6 year old battery in this car too. |

I think it's normal. These cars have logic built into the charging system so it charges at various rates due to conditions - see attached.

Thanks for the documents. I had same concern on a trip with my 14’ V6. I pulled over and called GM because I was sure it was an alternator/battery going bad. They assured me it was the logic.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a little upset with myself for not notating this info when I first got the vehicle but my Info page is usually on oil press/temp. Not to mention I can be a bit of an automotive hypochondriac.

My Z was buiit 10/2014 and I’m on my original battery as well. Like y’all, I usually have mine in oil press/temp mode... |
