The Oil Cooler situation
I hate starting new threads, but honestly, the search is currently broken.
I think we need to talk about exactly how we're going to address the oil temp issues on-track. As it stands, Mishimoto's thermostatic option is the only rational plug-n-play kit available. I'm not thrilled with their location in front of the radiator as it puts energy into the A/C condenser and center coolant radiator, but it does appear their thermostat plate offers an optional 200°F thermostat, which is good. A fairly easy solution would be to rotate it down 90 degrees and have it stack on top of the trans cooler, as the airflow exits underneath the bumper for that. It seems the trans temps are nowhere near an issue so adding some heat into it wouldn't be a major issue. Has anyone done a DIY solution yet? If so, where did you put your cooler? It doesn't appear there's a convenient location behind the radiator cooling fan unless you just rig in some brackets while simultaneously deleting the rather silly sound tube. Let's hear some opinions and perspectives so we can hash out how to get this situation under control.

Is the oil cooling an issue on track? This is news to me.

I ran three 20 minute sessions in 90+ degree heat on Saturday, water never got above 210 and oil stayed under 260. Are you experiencing something different?

Oh this is good to hear.
IIRC, JeromeS13 was seeing 270-ish during his HPDE. Interestingly he was running a Dexos 2 5W-40, which will inherently raise oil temps due to higher friction from the higher viscosity.

Yes, I was reaching 268-269 oil temps during sessions, and this was with ambient temps in the 50's.

Mobil/ Castrol 0w-40 ftw.. I don't see the giant draw so many are pointing at motul 5w-40..
0w-40 is much more balanced & versatile, easier on cold starts, both cheaper than motul [more frequency in oil changes] and both brands are available absolutely everywhere, Walmart, home depot, autozone , everywhere |

* both Castrol & mobil 0w-40 are dexos2 certified http://www.centerforqa.com/dexos-brand2/
and preformed very well in another huge test from the link below http://www.bestsyntheticoilfilter.co...complete-list/ |

GM Clearly set up the 1LE to run 260-270f on track. It quickly goes to 260 then saturates. I never saw over 275 double stinting the car with my brother (also a Chin instructor) in 75 degree weather

Yes the oil temp goes up on track, but is does saturate around the 270-275 range and doesn't go above that. Now while some think that is too hot, the GM engineers thought that's acceptable. My buddies Caddy ATS-V got to the same temperature on the track looking back at his PDR logs. Apparently no one has owned a BMW with the N54 twin turbo I6 motor. My 135i would be 240 degree oil temp just cruising around town. Put that car on the track or run flat out on the Autobahn and you better believe the oil temp would go up 40 degrees or more. I don't feel this car needs anymore cooling as GM did a lot of work on that already in all their new performance cars. I know I'm not messing with any of that on this car, but that's me.

An thermostatic oil cooler will absolutely be of benefit but, will that hurt the warranty? That is probably a better question.
