Dragstrip insurance?
I will be taking my car to the drag strip for the first time April 8th. Would normal full coverage auto insurance cover damage that occurred at the drag strip. Or do I need to get a different coverage to be covered at the strip?
Thanks |

You won't find any insurance for the drag strip. You sign a waiver when you go in stating that it's completely voluntary. Any damage that occurs will be solely on your dime.
Gotta pay to play. But, most of us that frequent a strip know to get out of it the instant things start to go astray.

Your normal auto insurance won't cover you but there are places that sell insurance for the track.

Yeah that is what I thought, I read on the Road Course/Track and Autocross thread someone said they bought track insurance for the day. Thought it might be available of the drag strip as well.

After a quick google search it popped a few topics. I've never seen it, but apparently it's a thing. Me, I lift.

I am 100% stock at this point. I expect it to go right down the track without an y issues so I am not too worried about it. If anything seems not right I will let off for the next run. Just wanted to see if it was available and if any others were purchasing it. Just googled someone was talking about it being $200 for a day which seems kind of ridicules to run down the strip a few times.

No insurance. I've run for many years and only had one close call. I had a 2004 GTO with the A4 and it lost traction on the 1-2 shift and almost put me into the retaining wall. I recovered the car and coasted to a nice 22 second time and then never ran the car again. Not sure if it was the tires or something on the track, but definitely a scary moment. The car was 100% stock.

That's the best way to do it. No need to beat on the car if the launch doesn't go well.

As above....Insurance exists for this but nobody wants to pay for it. The guys here (and I mean no disrespect) are gambling every time they hit the strip with no coverage. Coverage exists but people don't want to pay for it. Making a trip to the strip $300-400 is not in most people books.
Look up "race day or track day" insurance. If you care about your life after being "That guy on youtube" that wrecked his $60K ride plus owes the drag strip $ for fixing their facilities that $200-300 just becomes cheap in comparison. I read an article recently and there is a youtube on it too where a guy wrecked his Z06 then told his insurance company that he wrecked it on the freeway... big trouble after one of the Insurance reps saw the footage.... Here is the incident I mentioned ... do you want to be that guy? I'd rather look at the insurance as cost to participate. http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2017/...surance-claim/ https://www.rlicorp.com/track-day https://locktonmotorsports.com/product/hpde-insurance http://www.chizmarklarson.com/Motorsports.5.htm https://www.hagerty.com/insurance/track-day-insurance Below specificaly states Drag Racing where most just say Track Day.... http://www.naughtoninsurance.com/serv_motorsport.html Last edited by 80sMetalDude; 03-24-2017 at 12:15 PM. |

I'd also worry about injuries to another person, but if you have an umbrella policy as part of your homeowner's or independent one you should be ok...I think

I will probably call my insurance agent and see what the options are, he's an independent agent so he deals with a number of companies. That way I will know the risks vs costs and make a decision. |
