First 2016 Chevy Camaro (6th Gen) Prototype Spied!
In 2008, there was no bigger story in the automotive world than the upcoming, fifth-generation Camaro. It's now time to restart that hype machine as we've just caught the sixth-generation, 2016 Camaro for the first time!
Normally we'd expect to catch a regular Camaro, or maybe a Camaro SS, first since it's still early in the development cycle. Surprisingly, we may have caught a high performance Camaro variant! In addition to the quad tip exhaust outlets, and the large, sporty double-spoke wheels, we can see what look to be vents showing though the camouflage on either side of the hood, and trunk lid spoiler pushing up the camo in back. Are we looking at the next gen ZL1 or 1LE potentially? This may indicate a faster rollout of Camaro variants, much like GM has done with the new Corvette, and Corvette Z06. Overall, we'd say the new Camaro looks a little more aggressive, and muscular. One of the first things we noticed is that the roof looks a bit lower than the current model. Glancing towards the rear, it appears as though the trunk lid is shorter, as is the section between the door and the rear wheels. The rear end may also have a more rounded shape. The front wheels also look as though they may be pushed out further towards the front of the car. Additionally, GM has gone to great length to camouflage the rear roofline on this car, though the real rear windshield, and its slope, isn't that hard to see through the clear plastic camouflage. Codenamed "A1BC," the 2016 Chevy Camaro will be all-new underneath as it ditches the Zeta chassis in favor of the newer, lighter Alpha chassis. The Alpha chassis is, of course, the platform already in use on the Cadillac ATS and CTS. As a result, the 2016 Camaro is expected to be both lighter and smaller than the current 5th gen Camaro. The usual lineup of six, and eight, cylinder engines should be expected, with some of those engines featuring forced induction. GM's turbocharged, 2.0L four-cylinder may also serve as the base engine this time around. Look for the new Camaro to begin production in October of 2015 at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant. |

Looks fairly evolutionary but you really can't tell anything.

Wow, finally we see some pics. Thanks for posting. Hard to tell but the roof still looks very low. Otherwise, looks pretty good, what we can see in these photos.

Don't draw any conclusions from that rear end. You can pack a crapload of styrofoam and cardboard back there to throw people off.

Kind of excited. Does look like an evolution of the current body style too. The front end looks like a ZL1 style front fascia too.

This looks like a pretty advanced prototype to me. I was expecting to see mules running around. Hopefully that means a January reveal and summer to fall 2015 release is going to happen.

Not sure how I feel about the finish. Will they have a car cover delete option? Seems like that would be noisy. I prefer paint.

My eyes see a potentially smaller 5th gen. Interesting to see more as the camo comes off.
