The front fascia doesn't seem to have the nice LED lights or any special air ducts like the SS or Zxx test mule model, also seen testing on the Nurburgring. This is more of me crossing my fingers than using logic but maybe this isn't a 1LE. You can already get an SS with improved suspension and brakes, what if this is a high revving n/a z/28 / GT350 equivalent test mule and they are throwing us off by not putting the front air ducts and what not on it since they already know the bumper off the ZL1 works good for brake cooling. Maybe the next z/28 won't have such expensive features such as carbon ceramic brakes so people like me can actually afford buying one

Ok, I'll stop day dreaming now...gotta get ready for work.

The 1LE for only $3,500 made the Camaro SS a respected track day car. They took all the lessons learned in developing the ZL1 and applied them to the SS as a simple handling package.

At VIR's lightning lap challenge a standard 5th gen SS ran a time of 3:09.5
The 1LE ran the same track under similar conditions 3:01.5 just behind a C6 Z06's 3:01.1

So for $3,500 a 5th gen 1LE is now 8 SECONDS FASTER A LAP and now out runs these cars:

-2015 Alpha Romeo 4C
-2012 Lotus Evora S
-2011 Merc E63&C63 AMG
-2011 Cadillac CTS-V
-2014 Jag XKF-R
-2013 Jag XKR-S
-2011 Ford GT500
-2006 Viper SRT10 Coupe
-2007 Porsche 911 GT3
-2014 Porsche Cayman S
-2014 Audi RS7
-2007 Audi R8

Still not impressed?

As we all know the 2016 Camaro shares the ATS-V platform, so I think its fair to say a 2017 1LE would perform similar to the ATS-V. With its 464HP/445TQ and a curb weight of 3760lbs the 2015 ATS-V Coupe ran a 2:59.2 outrunning:

-2015 BMW M4
-2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S
-2006 Ford GT
-2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 Quattro

Still don't get the hype?

Anything is possible but it seems odd that they would develop another new engine. Also I believe it would be unprecedented for a new performance engine to be unveiled on a Camaro instead of the Corvette.

They could drop a new engine for both a "grand sport" corvette and camaro simultaneously. Unlikely, but possible.

Given the teething problems the LT1 had in its first year...I'd rather the Corvette get a new engine first to explode, fail and cause problems in before it gets to the Camaro.

That'll add a big chunk to the price tag. The vette guys will pay it but not the camaro guys. I say just make it handle better and be more track capable like the old 1le. It was great product for the price so why change. Not if your talking about a z/28 or zl1 variant that'll naturally carry a large price tag then he'll yeah bring on a bigger badder engine. Or smaller higher revving track weapon. A destroyed 6.2 would scream at high rpm's!!!!!!

Hood is different, vents are much more forward than stock SS.

They look to be in the same position to me...they end about at the front tires mid point, just like the SS.

The previous 1LE was 8 seconds a lap faster at VIR than a regular SS.

I am assuming everyone who buys a 1LE is tracking the car alot? If not, its completely a waste.

Up to the person spending the money, some people consider buying a Camaro at all a waste.

I think a great deal of the people clamoring for a 1LE option just want it based on the reputation that some people have given it from the 5th Gen.

There will be people who would seriously track, or even just have fun with it on a road course..but most will just use it to brag on the internet and with friends or try to impress strangers.

This is the same fate with the Boss 302, GT350..Z/28...etc

Why the hype for a 1LE? the new SS stock is already better performing than the last gen 1LE. Some people are just insatiable

that's what I'm thinking. idk, maybe its just me, but I think trying this hard and trying to impress strangers is sad.

if you actually plan on tracking it, then cool. but if its just to show off?

Buying a $20,000 watch just to tell the time is a waste too. Maybe there's more to it...
