How much rwhp to hit 200mph in 1 mile?
Never made it with my 520 rwhp C5 Z06 but it's still on my bucket list.
I'm guessing my current. 688 rwhp would have got it done at the Mohave magnum Mile but that race went away. That leaves the Texas mile and another venue with 1.24 miles that are somewhat affordable, so just how much more will I need in 1 mile? |

688whp isn't hitting anywhere close to 200mph in the standing mile.

I'd say 1000+ or 800 with a lot of weight reduction

Don't forget that you'll need to cover up, as much as you can safely, the front end so that the car will be able to cut through the air easier.

And you probably would need a roll cage too.

With the aforementioned Z06 I did 172 at the Texas mile and 186 at the Mohave magnum (1.5) mile and I’m sure it was much more aerodynamic.
That car ran 155+ in the half mile and my current ZL1 almost 166 so I’m under no illusions that this fat pig of a car would probably need another 150+whp to hit 200 Mph in a mile. If I could find another 1.5 mile venue I’d think another 40-50whp would put me close. It’d be a bummer to run 198… And no, most venues nowadays with the newer cars don’t require a roll bar. |

There’s no way I would be driving that fast without a roll cage in place in case of a crash/roll over but you probably would be dead anyway. Good luck with your goals.

And this comes from my experience with my 800hp camaro doing 168mph in the 1/2 mile.

I would guess that's pretty close. I'm a couple mph slower at 165.8 in the 1/2.
I'm thinking my only hope is another 50whp and 1.5 mile venue. |

rule of thumb
For those of us that run the mile all the time, a general rule of thumb is that you pick up ABOUT 25-30MPH over your half mile speed.
That is why you see some cars will back off after they know their half mile speed via a radio message if they are trying to hit a specific one mile speed and they know they cant hit it based on the half mile MPH It takes a VERY efficient car to hit 200 with only 800 RWHP. I havent seen any 3700+ pound cars do that with only 800. Wind plays a HUGE factor as a strong headwind or crosswind will make the task much more difficult. I DID see a early model Z06 that weighed roughly 3100 pounds PLUS driver hit 202 with roughly 800 HP. But as I said that is a very efficient car. Gearing plays a factor too. I had a friend that had a Camaro fifth gen convertible go 220 in the mile but he had 2.73 rearend gear and about 1400 hp. He had a GEAR VENDORS setup that he basically used to split gears Car with driver was bout 4600 pounds You REALLY need 900-1000 RWHP to have a shot at 200 and if you are pushing around a 4500 pound car, you will need MORE than that (Like a PIGGY HELLCAT for instance LOL).

^^^^ makes sense. Both of my front wheel liners got destroyed at the 1/2 mile from a mixture of wind and nosing the front over on the brakes.
