Yep, those tens of millions that Pennzoil spends on R and D pale in comparison to Amsoil and some homemade testing eqpt.........

Amsoil is one of the finest synthetic oils available and that has been backed up by multiple independent test results.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Any name brand, properly rated, full synthetic oil is fine. These are not 15,000 rpm F1 engines.

flushing the engine will guarantee to lighten your wallet and do nothing else esp @ 8500 miles. Aside from Amsoil being a quality oil. or not.

It's really irrelevant, right? No Amsoil oil is dexos2.

But if you are getting your advice from Ted, then I imagine you are punting your engine warranty anyway, so use what you like!

I would tend to agree here and proper oil change intervals shouldn't be an issue. Amsoil is likely superior to all others but does it really matter at 3-5K oil change intervals? Probably not.

Dexos2 was created for Diesel engines not Gas... Its irrelevant. Also Dexos overall is for dirty, low speed, turbo engines and to protect emissions systems.

Besides Amsoil meets all requirements of Dexos1-2.

If you are not hitting a track, then 5W-30 Dexos is fine for street use.

As for Amsoil, I think they are fine but any name-brand synthetic oil is about as good. Also, Amsoil claims they meet a lot of standards, they just don't pay for them so they can't display the logo on the front of the oil bottles.

You understand that all modern diesels run the same oil as gas engines?

The RAM 1500 Diesel calls for Chrysler MS-12991 which is essentially dexos2.
(Valvoline 5W-40 MST SynPower, Redline Full Synthetic 5W-40, Motul 8100 X-Clean to name a few)

My point was, if he is tuning/modding the engine anyway, then the absence of a dexos2 certification doesn't matter. Use what you want.

If he is trying to maintain engine warranty, then no Amsoil oil works.

I would never do an oil flush or put anything other then synthetic oil in my car. If you had a concern for what ever reason just do a few quick oil changes.

this is a cool tool to compare different OEM specs and see what focus they have.

Warranty for me is out the door as I have a JRE125 package. I track the car and ride hard in the street. Car is not my daily and I take is out maybe 1 day a week. Before the mods I used Dexos2 and I noticed car burned about a qt every so often sometimes qt and half. Ted said it's pretty normal for these cars to cars to burn oil when driving hard. I'm switching to AMSoil and let's see if it burns at the same rate.
