Photos: BC Forged 18" ZL1 1LE track wheels(UPDATED 10/10/18 with video)

Alright, so I just test mounted my new set of BC Forged wheels that I purchased as a dedicated track wheelset. These are the RZ05 in OEM 1LE specs, except 18 inches.

Front: 18x11 +11
Rear: 18x12 +41
Current Tires: 305-315/680/18

At a glance, the 18's bring the wheel very close to the front strut, even with the DSSV. I'd guess 2mm. Potentially enough clearance, as I heard no major rubbing. With that said, twice while moving the car I heard a split second metal on metal rub. I will take more time to measure clearances next weekend before giving the final go-ahead. Worst case, I'll throw a 2 or 3mm spacer on the front.

Particular attention needs to be paid towards the tires, these are 680mm in diameter (height). I ran a set of 680's on my stock 1LE wheels without issue, however, I happened to notice that at full lock these brush the fender liners. Either something is slightly taller with these, or I just never noticed it with my past tires and it was a non-issue.

I will put the car in the air and investigate further next weekend. I'm very excited to try these, they seem like a nice little weight savings over my 19" BC Forged wheels, they most certainly are over the stock 1LE wheels.

Those make the front brakes look oh-so-big! [Which they are, of course!] Thanks for sharing the pics and info.

Static weight is one thing. I wish the custom wheel makers would test Moment of Inertia compared to a stock wheel. I'm sure these are better in that regard, too, but, it would be nice to have MOI data from BC, Forgeline, etc.

I suppose you trailer your car. I'd love a setup like that on my SS 1LE, but no way can I pull it off with driving the car to the track :(

I had the exact same issue with 18" Weld wheels on the front of my last ZL1. The step was toward the outside of the wheel so the actual diameter of the barrel was really 17".

Take some pics of these wheels from the inside when you get it up in the air.

They look awesome!!!

Sick. Please do update if you find the need for a 3mm front spacer. A future buyer could spec the wheel offsets to a lower effective ET with that knowledge and not require a spacer. I’m interested to see your impression of 18 vs. 19 as well.

My SS 1LE feels so damn light on its feet on 18’s with PZero DH’s (285/645 square)... because it is. 15.9lbs PER CORNER lighter vs OEM 20’s with RE71R’s to be exact. Yes seriously.

the 18's open up a lot of options as well for tires. That's my gripe with the 19's nothing in factory size for 200TW autocross.

Looks awesome none the less, have fun at the track!

Sean,

Damn....those are sexy! Look awesome on your NGM car! Congrats!

Thanks for all the PM's and help with the 18's and fitment. Think I'm ready to call Paul and get mine ordered. Probably go with a few mm less ET to avoid the spacer as I'm using stock lugs. Great help and info from you.

I can't pull off the red wheels on my car.....but....now you have me thinking RZ05's vs. RZ39's. The 05's are closer to the Z/28 wheel look. Decisions!?!?

Great job....let us know how they perform on the track!!
