There all doing this now. Did you look at dealer lots lately? No one has any cars.

I’ve been to around a dozen dealers, there all doing the same.

I just bought my daughter a 2020 Honda Civic after going through the exact same thing at many dealers. Almost no new civics on the lot and many of them were selling for 5k over Msrp.

It’s a great excuse this chip shortage for industries to start making their money back….

Yeah I’m aware of the prices. I just haven’t seen the posting a lower price to get you in thing yet. Everything I’m seeing right now is just priced higher to begin with. I’m in the market for a new daily. I’m just going to wait it out. I don’t NEED a new car so I can wait a year. If it’s not back to normal or close to normal in fall 2022 I may overpay for a new car then. Hoping it goes back to normal. I don’t care if the value of my cars drop. I just want the cars I’m saving up for to be cheaper (will be in the market for a used zl1 in a few years).

about 20 years ago I was looking for an awd car to drive back and forth to work for winter. I found a car in an ad at an unbelievable price but was unable to get through to anyone at the dealership. I drove over there to find out the car that was advertised never even existed, they just wanted to get people on the lot.

If you have a car to trade it is pretty much a wash if buying something new at MSRP. I just bought a 2021 ZL1 and had to pay MSRP - $500 rebate and I traded a Miata for it. Two years ago the Miata would have been worth $21,500 on trade-in and now it was worth $28,300, which is basically what I paid for it. Now, if you have no trade to get top dollar for and save on the sales tax then yeah you will pay top dollar now and when supply recovers prices will drop.

The scary part is putting in an order for a car now at MSRP or even higher and then have to wait 6-9 months and then the markets drops out and your trade drops $5-7k. I mean you could just walk away from the deal and potentially lose your deposit or try and renegotiate.

Around here, they advertise MSRP some below, you show up there, they'll tell you its a hot car and "The going rate is this amount of $".
