Thinkware U1000 camera system

I am thinking about getting this camera system for my car. So far in 5 months its been hit twice...yes twice. Both times I could wheel out the marks, but want added protection. I'm wondering where all of the fuse boxes are at.... I know of the one in the engine compartment and there's one in the trunk. Is there one on the side of the dash or under the passenger front kick-plate? I need a fuse that's got constant power to power the parking sensor. I can get an OBDII, which I'll do if the only constant power supply is in the trunk.

This doesn't directly answer your question, but have you looked into battery packs to run your camera in parking mode? I have a BlackVue camera and I know they also make a battery pack that will run it for up to 20 hours without touching the car's battery. They ARE pricey, but they can either be hardwired or connected w/ the cigarette lighter to recharge the battery while the car is running so you don't accidentally drain the car. Thinkview may make a similar system, and though I have not tried it myself, I've seen comments online saying that the Blackvue batteries should work with anything as long as you can connect it to the battery. I admittedly have no idea how hard that is to accomplish...

Anyway, good luck in finding something that works, sorry your Camaro keeps getting dinged...

I'm sorry to hear about your accidents, a dash cam is definitely a wise investment these days. Don't you want a dual channel system? That way you'll have rear protection as well, and since you need to run a wire from front to back anyway, it's okay to hook the system up to the rear fuse box.

This is what I did on both my Camaro (Blackvue DR900S-2CH) and my wife's SUV (Blackvue DR750S-2CH), and installation wasn't a major pain in either case.

Here are two threads I posted in with some installation details on my 2018. I'm not sure if the fuse layout is the same with 2019+ model years, probably not, but these are still good starting points:

The Thinkware U1000 is a dual system and actually tests out better then the Blackvue in picture quality when trying to catch a moving license plate number from the side.

I was going to buy the battery system but I've never had luck with batteries lasting more then a fee months with anything. (This is why I'm so skeptical of EVs!!) That being said the battery that is available actually fits both the Thinkware and the Blackvue.

A quick overview video I put together of my Thinkware u1000 dual channel setup on my 21 Camaro I also run the thinkware RADAR and iVOLT battery pack (installed in my glove box). Video is not a full install video but I point out where I run everything and how I have it hooked up and what not. I will post an updated video sometime in the near future of some camera footage in 2k/4k, sadly when I tossed this video together and uploaded it the video quality got downsized to 1080.

I usually run my front camera at 2k/60fps (instead of 4k/30fps so as to capture plates and what not in motion a little better) and rear at 2k/30fps.

I have the U1000 in my car. I have mine hard wired and have the parking radar unit with it. Great camera.

I have the U1000 without the RADAR or battery pack and haven't had issues. I set mine to turn off after 3 hrs unless I know imma be parked somewhere longer which normally isn't the case but when I have allowed it to stay on I haven't had battery issues.

I just finished installing the BlackVue DR750X-2CH Plus camera system on my 2019 Camaro Convertible this past week. BlackVue has made some image improvements with the plus models, see their website for details.

I used the Thinkware iVolt Mini external dash cam (BAB-50) battery pack and get 14 hours of parking time from the battery. I hardwired it to the fuse box in the trunk.

So far, so good!
