Whipple 2.9 VS. Procharger D1SC
I’m sure this question has been asked million times ... but I need some input ..
I’m getting a Brand new Whipple or used D1SC stage 2 IC/R-BOV same price . Which one would you guys choose? My plans - want to keep it as a daily driver .. will see track here and there nothing competitive.. Car will have proper mods to support either kit. Pro - Whipple - instant power - brand new - less maintenance? Procharger - drives like OEM low rpm - easier to send unit out for repair - easier to upgrade bigger unit Con - Whipple - tires will light up every second you hit throttle - hard to put power down with street tires - harder to daily - mpg? Procharger - used unit - smaller than Whipple - belt driven |

If anything it will be easier to daily drive. you can literally pull from any gear without needing to skip down a couple gears. The mpg loss won't be any different then a Centri. They both take power to make power. Whipple is more OEM looking. Whipple will run hotter when pushed harder, but that won't be a issue until you start pushing it to the point you need to consider pistons. Centri The race Bov is annoying for daily driving. Never cared for how the air filter sits over the engine. Alot of stuff needs cut, trimmed, and removed for the larger intercooler and plumbing. Centri will run a little cooler. Linear power band "might" offer an advantage with traction down low. Neither are going to hook on street tires if the tune is allowing full torque maximizing the potential of the added power. Timing can be adjusted in the high octane table to allow the power to come in softer but then you are not utilizing the capability of either system. The Whipple feels OEM to me and that is coming from driving my Brothers C7Z. Soon as you pulley that little 1.7 down it just hits like a freight train. The Whipple isn't as aggressive on the hit even with the 3.375 pulley. I just finished up tuning his H/C 2300 swap and even the 2300 with a 80mm pulley and larger lower producing 13.5psi doesn't hit as hard as the LT4 did pullied for 12 psi on the stock engine. The 1.7 felt like it tapered up top, the Whipple and 2300 just keep pulling to red line. Either way, The Procharger and Whipple are both great systems. I have owned both. Any cons I listed, I would consider minor at best. I do like PD better for a street car but that is jmo. They both will be a handfull on street tires.

^ thank you for great information!
Tires are definitely on the list to do! I’m also leaning more on whipple than procharger but was getting confused |

The Procharger is going to make a little more noise than the Whipple. Complete Street Performance makes a nice cooler that uses your air conditioning system to cool your incoming air to 30-degrees Fahrenheit, or lower.

For a max effort a PC may produce a bit more but for a DD I wouldn't hesitate to do the Whipple. It's just so instant but you'd get used to it and enjoy the hell out of it feeling like big cubes. All the factory stuff is PD also so...

can you use a whipple with the GM strut tower bar? i'm thinking no, but unsure how high it sits compared to no whipple.

New over used in my opinion, no contest for me. And having had the Whipple on mine for nearly a year, its been very easy to live with, no issues and great to drive. Just understand that the torque off the line creates major traction issues on street tires and ordinary roads, so launching smoothly takes a real lot of practice. But if youre gentle on the gas, mileage and drivability is very similar to factory.

I’ve had a PD style super charger in the past and I currently have a ProCharger on my Camaro. Both have their “pros” and I love my ProCharger set up. If the differences don’t matter to you, I’d get new over used every time. I’m fairly certain both will bring a huge smile to your face!

I know this isn't a listed option, but I would recommend waiting until you can purchase a new ProCharger kit.
