Chinese valve stem caps
1. Car had those green nitrogen plastic tire valve stem caps when bought. Wife said yuck.
2. Wife ordered nice looking metal valve stem caps off Amazon. 3. I put them on, thought nothing of it. 4. A year later (this week), I noticed tires slightly low. 5. 3 of the 4 metal caps had corroded internally to such an extent I couldn’t get them off, even with pliers. Thought I’d destroy TPMS sensors trying. 6. Finally got them off by heating them with a blowtorch and one pair of pliers holding valve stem and the other pair twisting hard. Good thing because this could have got real expensive according to the tire shop I called. 7. TPMS sensors survived, although I shredded the rubber stem covers (Re-wrapped them with electric tape). 8. Put a couple knicks / scuffs in the rims from me fighting these damn things. 9. The reviews on these things on Amazon are now very negative as others have had the same problem over time. Someone else mentioned that metal caps from Autozone (via China?) did the same thing. 10. Lesson learned. Stick with plastic valve stem caps. |

Yup. All those fancy Valve stem caps are for the 'Cars and Coffee' season.
Once the weather changes on go the Plastic ones.

No problem with any metal valve caps, if you put them on with an anti-seize product like Tef-Gel.

I will always use plastic. Years ago, we used to see those aluminum and stainless steel caps corrode to the aluminum valve stems and many broke just unscrewing them.

Any metal mismatch will lead to corrosion as the two metals try to react with one another.
That said, I haven't had an issue with the ones I have on my Camaro or Silverado. I do however check and adjust pressures monthly, which means removing the caps and hooking up the air pump.

Is love to see a cap that would cover the entire stem in black plastic.
Hmmm. I wonder if that could be 3d printed.
