I put mine up, except for a quick lotto ticket run at 7-11 or quick cash at a ATM near my house.

Good plan.

I would leave the top down quite often on my Gen 5, because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of removing and re-installing the tonneau cover.

However, with the Gen 6's integrated tonneau, and remote opening feature, I close it every time I leave the car. Probably, because I enjoy watching it open.

I had to meet two women this morning at a coffee shop in Grapevine. No word about rain in the forecast so I parked in front of the coffee shop with the top down.

During our meeting, a sudden thunder storm erupted. I went to the car and reased the top just in time. No big deal really.

My rule is that if there is no rain and the temp is fine, run with the top down. If I can see the car from my vantage, ok to leave the top down, unless rain is imminent. Otherwise, put the top up.

It's worked so far. I've driven convertibles for over 5 years now.

I will if I run into the store quickly, or at a car meeting/cruise-in/show.

People just suck. Leaving it up won't stop someone who wants what's inside. Best option is to just keep it obviously barren inside I guess.
Jeff as my one friend says 99.99% of all people suck: sad0147:

I am really nervous parking it next to other vehicles much less top up or down. I do feel better if I can keep it in sight, and choose destinations on that premise....
I don’t take my toy out of the garage if there is more than a 10% chance of rain.
But I will leave to top down....sun on the seats is no problem with the air conditioned seats....

I put the top every time I park it anywhere except at my house. And then only if I know I’m going back out again. I live in a pretty low-crime part of the SF Bay Area as well, but I’m more worried about bird-bombs or some teenager/rice-burner driver throwing something inside. (Likely my own paranoia.)

The few times I’ve left it down to do a run in/out, I’ve rolled the windows up.

And at home, it’s parked under a car port as the back 1/3 of our garage was converted into a little workshop space by the previous owners. The rest of the garage is storage and a gym.

Funny thing today though. I got home, parked it under the car port with top down/windows up, as I knew I would be heading back out in an hour or so. I get out of the shower to hear our landscapers at work in the front yard. One of the guys was starting to use some electric shears on a tall hedge right next to the car port. I throw on some clothes, run down and move the car down to the street. Timing is everything!

With my previous convertibles, (‘73 Alfa Romeo Spider, ‘94 Miata R-Type, and a ‘69 Cadillac DeVille convertible) I rarely locked the doors for fear of the top being cut. Also didn’t keep anything valuable in the cars. When I lived in SF and had to park the Alfa on the street, I put stick-on labels on the side windows that said “Doors unlocked. Do not cut top” in English and Spanish. Thankfully never had an issue. At least not that I knew about.

Don't own a vert but would be hesitant to leave the top down, some jerk flicks a cigarette inside or something else. I don't know, jealous weirdo's out there why risk it.

I ALWAYS put the top up when I park it at home for the night. I think it’s not too good for the fabric to remain pinched in the down position.
