In 1970 none of my friends gave a crap about foreign cars. I still remember being in a
Chevy dealer and seeing a green '70 Camaro on the showroom floor. I had a '69 white
Camaro 327 coupe at the time and would have traded in a minute if I had the money.
Today, not so much. And your right, I'm older than most of you guys.

I don't know if any of you are familiar with the Pontiac Firebird Pegasus concept. GM was defiantly thinking Ferrari/Euro styling when they built it on the second gen platform. Right down to the Ferrari drivetrain. Lot's of info on this car online.

Well played.

Second generation IMO is the same as the fifth generation. Sixth generation reminds me of the change in the mid to late 70's styling just prior to the third generation. Dad had a maroon 1970 that I remember being an uncomfortable car that rattled a lot. The car was also about thirteen years old at that time so it had been through a bit of wear and tear but at my age, I wasn't concerned about much other than roominess and comfort.

I have a strong preference for the second generation just behind the fifth. The sixth is better technologically in every way and doesn't look bad at all, it's just not the polarizing change that the fifth generation was.

This is what I recall. I don't recall that being a selling point at all, but I do remember the idea being tossed out.

So I'm curious to know if the conversations existed back then too.
With the way the cars back then were put together, and how they almost shook themselves apart above certain speeds, I'm sure whether the taillights were "too Euro" was probably the least of peoples' worries lol

At the time a lot of people didn't like the styling change. I was 17 and was one of them.

But in hindsight, the 1970 was a beautiful car, and a better performer, too.

There's been tons of conversation about the 5th Gen becoming a 6th Gen Euro sports car.
It's an arcane fact that the 2nd Gen was inspired by the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso. So I'm wondering if the same conversation existed 46 years ago, about the 1st Gen becoming a 2nd Gen Euro sports car?

Never heard conversation like that back in that timeframe; it was more of a local view comparing the styling between Mustang and Camaro.
What we could see on the street or in trade magazines.

In 70 we did not have the Internet, car Forums, or instant access to all the auto related information that is shared today online from around the planet.
Just to locate the two pictures you posted here in your thread would have been a major effort.
Most car related information I picked up was from trade publications - Mechanics Illustrated, Hot Rod, Car and Driver.
... Often, by borrowing from a friend or going to the public library putting on reels on the microfilm reader (that was our equivalent of a Google search).

I was 10 at the time, but I remember the reception of the 2nd Gen was quite mixed.

I was in high school at the time and don't remember one guy driving a Camaro. In fact, the only Camaro I know anyone had was a girl I knew and it was a 6 with a 3-speed manual on the column. Muscle cars were Mustangs, GTOs, Chevelle SSs, Chargers and 442s. So the change in the Camaro went unnoticed. For the Chevy dealer's ad in the school annual, the cheerleaders and I were photographed in a Vega!
