HELP! Ac / Radio Dead after Battery Disconnected ($50.00 CASH REWARD)

I just finished my ZL1 HUD dash install on my 2010,battery was disconnected over a 3 day period. Hooked battery up and everything started working as normal except the AC Stereo controls which are black. The stereo still works with steering wheel control. Nothing is lit on the controls except the hazard lights and door unlock button still work.

I have read about the stereo locking out after being disconnected, not sure if this is true or not lots of opinions. Do I need the stereo to recognize the VIN again?do I need to go to the dealer? Any help would be appreciated.

I would reset the fuse on the left side of the dash. It says HVAC. My display locks and I lose all controls of the heat and AC. This always brings it back.

So I pulled and checked the HVAC fuse which is good. I’ll keep it a little longer and see if that works..

I pulled the fuse again and can hear the system resetting, but still no controls/completely dead black. Stereo still works with wheel controls. I'm leaning toward a blown AC/Radio control unit.

how about checking the radio faceplate like in this SB.
A/C - Diagnostic Tip for Various Concerns and DTC U1510

# PIC5965: Diagnostic Tip - Various Heating and Cooling Concerns With HVAC Control Module DTC U1510 - (Feb 19, 2014)
Subject: Diagnostic Tip - Various Heating and Cooling Concerns With HVAC Control Module DTC U1510

Models: 2014 Chevrolet Camaro

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment on a wide variety of HVAC concerns for the vehicle listed above. During diagnosis, a technician will find a current or history DTC U1510 set in the K33 HVAC Control Module. This DTC will set for a loss of communication with the A20 Radio / HVAC controls on the LIN Bus.

Recommendation/Instructions

It has been found through warranty reviews that many HVAC modules have simply been reprogrammed for various HVAC issues if the original customer's concern was not able to be duplicated in the dealership setting. While there is an updated calibration for the HVAC module in these vehicles, by performing an update alone, this will not address the loss of communication DTC that was set in the system. In many cases the vehicle was returned to the customer with only the update being performed.

Instead, dealership technicians are asked to carefully inspect the connections at the HVAC control module, which is located next to the blower motor under the passenger side of the dash. Carefully inspect both connectors to make sure they are fully seated. Then, inspect terminal tension using the appropriate diagnostic test probes; currently J-35616-16 (L-GN) and J-35616-64B (L-BU) for connectors 1 and 2, respectively. Replace any loose terminals as needed.

If no issues are found, flex the wiring harness in an attempt to duplicate the concern with the system. If still no issues are found, technicians are to carefully remove the radio faceplate from the radio itself and check the direct connections at that location.

Warranty Information

For wiring repairs covered under warranty, please refer to latest version of bulletin 10-00-89-005 for warranty information on wire/connector repairs.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Yeah, while it's nice to do your own work, saving money and having that feeling of pride in doing the job yourself, with these modern "computer" laden cars, you can easily find yourself in nightmare territory, ready to pull your hair out and burn the car completely to the ground. I'm sure there's some small, easy fix to your problem, one that a knowledgeable tech can easily remedy. You're a braver man than I am to install your own HUD. Hopefully someone here can give out the answer, or you may find yourself driving it in to a knowledgeable technician to solve the issue.

The install was straight forward just time consuming and turned out great. If I can just figure out this dam dead HVAC system!

1. So I used a new face plate and still dead
2. I checked every fuse in the vehicle
3. Pulled HVAC fuse several times(I can hear the system power up but still dead controls)
4. Did battery reset numerous times
5. Every other button in the vehicle works perfectly.
6. Checked the HVAC control module connections which are fine.
7. Radio works with steering controls
8. HUD works great also

So I’m offering $50.00 PayPal cash to the member that gets my HVAC system back running. Which means the member that can work his magic and use his expertise.

Is it possible you pinched/broke a wire or pulled one of the pins in the connector lose when you reinstalled everything? Just a thought, good luck and hope it turns out to be something simple.

Anything is possible, but I have checked all connections. The hazards work and the door unlock button. It just seems like the HVAC controls have no power.

Have you tested all electrical circuits to insure they’re getting proper voltage? Relay maybe?

I'm thinkin you need some sort of reflash.
Sometimes at work we have to do these re flashes to the computer system. Like if someone changes out the stereo and doesn't save the memory the new stereo wont work right. You gotta go back and re flash the computer so it see's the different modules and knows to activate them.
I work mostly on Fords so we use IDS and VCM II. But I have a feeling GMs are similar. Dealer is probably the only place you can get it done. But I dont know.
Might want to ask one just to see.
Would suck to change the module and not fix the problem.

I obviously have a custom tune to support meth and all other extensive mods. Can they flash this without killing my tune?
